  1. This is neat from a technological standpoint but really I have to say it would be a disaster from an environmental one.
But I just keep thinking yes just what we need more e-waste and how much energy would be wasted in the inductive coils in store shelves to power these things.

  2. I don't go down that aisle, but I am disappointed that they're wasting time/materials/electricity in this manner. Like kids don't already have enough reasons to pester mommy/daddy/whomever into getting them sugary-obeseness-and-diabetes-inducing crap.

  3. It's awesome to look at, but an economic standpoint, it's not worth the resources. Noone buys cereal for flashy lights, but the crap inside of it.

But it would be funny, if this caught on, and people really did buy cereal for the elaborate light show...

  4. Actually, from what I understand, the cereal market is one of the most competative markets out there. Supposedly, in large grocery store chains, it's not up to the store to manage how the boxes, but rather the cereal companies will lease space on the shelves to arrange them as they see fit. I don't have any positive verification on that, but it was an offhand comment one of my professors made a few years ago.

Or you could buy the cereal in a bag.
Surprisingly it's actually pretty good and costs less.

They usually put them in rather out-of-eyesight places, since they don't make as much money and don't attract children's eyes.
