   Recently Fairy Tail disappointed me because one character got a huge range of facial expressions with a huge change in expressions that made the animation seem shoddy to me.

   As the filenames of the attached images are meant to indicate, the changes in facial expression seemed ridiculously sudden and exaggerated.

   When I was watching it in animation, the eyelashes seemed particularly weird. Now that I look at the still images, the eyelashes look more consistent. I suspect that this sequence was used to train a starting animator, who was allowed to make mistakes as part of the learning process.

   This image seems to have crooked eyelids to me. Real people don't have perfectly symmetrical faces, of course, but the shadows really seize my attention as asymmetrical.

   I see nothing wrong with those pictures. Sometimes I find simple animations sexier than all that "realistic" expression stuff. I mean wow, Lucy's a simple character but she's freaking fine.

   The character design is fine, it's just that when those facial expressions were animated, the animation looked choppy and strained to me.

   Many of the character designs on that show are very simple - such as, Lucy and Natsu and a lot of the supporting characters like the fat painter of Fairy Tail. I didn't like the simple designs of One Piece, and Fairy Tail obviously imitates One Piece a lot, but I like most of the Fairy Tail designs.
