  2. Greetings ~

Regardless of the language placed. How about more information regarding this OP?

I mean, a singular sentence, an image, it's too vague, perhaps a link to the DL page or page itself?

If not then this Thread will be [CLOSED] for lack of added info...

Here is my addition to this Thread:

    http://www.microsoft.com/taiwan/silverlight/sis.htm

and you can get a interactive stamp of the Character here:

    http://www.microsoft.com/taiwan/silverlight/toybox.htm

The (only) CON is that it stays the same size on the desktop and cannot be reduced.

  4. This is interesting. We could sure use a translator here.

What exactly is MS silverlight btw? It is that great, to have a character made to market it?

  5. I think the first two lines of the dialogue box are noises.
    Then it goes something like:
"Everyone else is sleeping. Can you watch this DVD with me?"

    1st Option's something like:
    Eagerly Accept

    2nd Option:
    *something* together with someone else.

    3rd Option:
    No interest.

My Chinese sucks, sorry. Apologies if I'm really far off.
I slept in for the end of year exam, hahaha...

    ======

Silverlight is similar to Adobe FLASH:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Microsoft_Silverlight

Microsoft Silverlight is an application framework for writing and running rich Internet applications with emphasis on multimedia, animations, and graphics, with features and purposes similar to those of Adobe Flash.

As far as marketing, I don't really know, other-than it isn't surprising that Taiwan/Microsoft is using the/this method of Characters to use as a Marketing tool.

  7. Oh It's just a development tool for making flash stuff, So the Gal Game is likely a Tech demo. Well it's nice, for those who can speak Chinese...

    That is not correct.

Silverlight is an alternative to flash, and builds upon a slimmed version of the Microsoft .NET Framework.
Instead of ActionScript, which is used for flash, you can use any CLI Compliant programming language, like C#, VB.NET, C++/CLI etc, to develop it.

That second part being the main draw. But Flash is so big, it's hard to see Silverlight becoming anywhere near as big, especially with HTML5 coming out soon (or not so soon, at any rate).

  13. ActionScript reminds allot of JavaScript, I guess that might attract certain people to code in that rather than in Silverlight (Unless that one supports pure JavaScript I guess).

Oh, not to mention that Silverlight is Microsoft. Which... might affect the choice.
[Edit:]I believe Firefox beta 4 supports HTML 5 already, or at least parts of it.

I'm going to add that Silverlight has a high number of massive exploitable loopholes and I suggest you use NoScript to block it to pre-emptively take care of related hazards.

    Developed by Microsoft. Got loopholes.
    Why am I not surprised?

Some stats suggest that Silverlight have over 50% market penetration, which is pretty good actually. Still far away from the 95+ flash have though.
And HTML5 won't replace Flash or Silverlight. There will still be areas that they will excel in.

Unless you give some examples, I'm going to call FUD.
Security has been a key aspect for Microsoft when developing Silverlight.

Oh, I'll admit I don't know enough about it to name examples, but I know which sources to trust when they tell me about security issues. Why don't you do a simple Google search on Silverlight exploitables?

  18. See that's the problem. People say there's vulnerabilities with Silverlight, just 'cause they heard someone else say it, or because it's from Microsoft. People without any real knowledge on the subject are simply coming to poor conclusions with no supporting evidence.

It runs in a virtual sandbox within the browser, and is an extension of the .NET framework. Other than vulnerabilities in the browser used, or in the .NET framework as a whole, I wasn't able to find anything.

  19. Well Whatever. Microsoft is going to try to break into every market and try to conquer it only to stay behind.

I think I've been served. I'm guilty as charged of FUD. Simply because quite a lot of antivirus software and security plugins like to block Silverlight, and some tech blogs have also touched upon it and advised to block it by default. I go by what sources seem legit to me (and I like to think I have a pretty decent mindset to determine which sources are good quality and which are not).
