Like people assume that anime is just people with big eyes and spikey hair. I find this rather ignorant. Because for those who actually watch anime yes, there are obviously characters with big eyes but I usually see this on children. When American cartoons etc try to mimic anime it just looks very stereotypical.

The anime stereo type bothers me about the same amount as the role gaming stereo type does.
But the stereo type is usually supported by idiots that know nothing of the subject and care even less.
So there is little to gain from getting seriously upset.

i dont like that in the animes that ive seen (im not sure if all animes have it) but always the main character has be like the strongest character and unleash some special hidden abilities and stuff...i.e. Ichigo Kurosaki, Setsuna F Seiei, Naruto Uzumaki, and other main anime characters >.< it somewhat bothers me

The only stereotypes I ever hear are
a) anime is for little kids
b) anime is cartoon porn
both come from people who have either never watch anime, or my friends who like anime, but deny it by saying "I only like dragon ball, saint seiya and/or captain tsubasa"
so in either case I just ignore them because is people who have no idea what anime is, or are people who have a vague idea of what anime is, but their idea is based on being stuck on almost 30years old anime (and dead genres in either case)

to answer to OP
I heard the reason behind the "big eyes" in anime is to emphasize on the character's "innocence" <--not a sex metaphor btw

that and because of their huge interest in the disney characters back in the day. the japanese were interested in the design of disney characters so they tried to copy a similar design to it and thats why they have huge eyes and shtuff
