Several reasons why that won't work

Doesn't keep one from dreaming. If I recall correctly, the Archangel was depicted with artificial gravity in the living quarters, which could mean that one part rotated, but, whatever.

As far as Gundam-style space colonies go, I'm now thinking about whether the Island-3 design is better than the PLANT, or if both are too crazy.

Island-3 is based off an actual real space colony design by physicist Gerard K. O'Neill.

The Stanford Torus a much smaller design would be possible with present materials technology.

  3. The biggest and most obvious problem with bigass space colonies and cities on the moon is the question of resources. Assuming asteroid mining becomes efficient and profitable, I think only then will colony construction even be feasible. We can't very well rip out cubic kilometers of the Earth and fling it into space.

  4. They pretty much assume mining the moon and asteroids to build these as launching the material from Earth would be to expensive.

  15. Dragon has splashed down on target I'll post pics as soon as they're available.

Spacex's Dragon may have been stealing the show this past week but work is proceeding on SNC's vehicle the Dream Chaser due to begin captive carry flight tests which bares a resemblance to the retired shuttles.
