As I was watching Cartoonetwork Friday and kept hearing it was the season finale, I was wondering why do American cartoons have such shorter seasons than anime? Yes, some animes only have 10 episodes a season as well but American cartoons are usually dragged out so why couldn't they just have more episodes a seasons?
Another thing is America cartoons can get dragged out for so long and just get canceled whilst an Anime will atleast try to wrap it up (I've never watched anything that didn't have a second season coming already).
Finally most American cartoons are generic, the majority. They always have some super hero thing going on while with anime has much more of a variety to choose from.
So could someone please explain the difference in market to me or something. Or does anyone else have explanations of how the American and Japanese animation industry differ.

Well IMO I think it's because anime has a more broader audience......
Okay I don't know >,<Posted 5 years ago # -
American/Cartoons fail to make up any good plot whatsoever and mainly only focus on little children who are unaware anyway.
No I don't know but they're only thinking about making a show funny, and not even caring about the drawing style, story line, character development and every other factor. It's purely 'entertainment'.Posted 5 years ago # -

I disagree with you. I thought Avatar the last air bender had a nice plot. The animation also improved throughout the second season.Artwork said:

The only current cartoons that get my approval are Adventure Time, Regular Show, MAD (the cartoon show), Generator REX, and some shows on Adult Swim.
I sometimes watch Phineas and Ferb only because of her:

I love American cartoons just as much as I love anime. Avatar and Teen Titans were great.
The Misadventures of Flapjack, Chowder, and Adventure Time may not fall into the category of having good plots... But I love 'em ♥

The point was not that they were canceled. I was pointing out cartoons that had good plots. Also If you read my post you would know that I already stated that CL and WD weren't American cartoons.

On the whole, American animation is severely injured and steadily declining. It makes one wonder: How can a country with 1/3 our population make more animated shows than us?

American artist want to be paid a more money then Asian artist and most people still think anything that is animated should only be for children.
All good cartoons get canceled before it suppose to end.

The kind that are targeted at children who have low attention-spans, and the kind for adults (usually Marvel comics that have been animated). Japan has anime for children too, of course, but its biggest audience is young adults (I think?) and therefore they are kind of forced to adhere to a higher standard.

No you a wrong about that. There are 4 type toddler cartoons (Nick Jr. playhouse Disney), Children cartoons (typical Disney nick CN stuff) , Young Teen cartoon(Marvel,DC based), and Adult cartoon(family guy).

That's true 'o'
Didn't think about it that way.On the topic of pay, don't Japan and the USA outsource most of their animation work to South Korea anyway? I don't know much about it though.

The thing is that the good cartoons don't last long because they are geared more to teen and typical teens view cartoons as childish and for nerds unless it is like South Park or Family Guy.
That is why anime is not that poplar in America.nEveR.Fly_ said:

yes, they do.

Because it's often manga or comics that are animated. Manga can cover pretty much anything while 99% of the comics are centered around some hero or a group of them.
Why the difference? Don't know, ask Stan Lee.. the old man wrote a lot and came up with tons of characters. I do like how Marvel super heroes usually have some grim undertone though.. like spiderman always being broke and his relationships going to hell due to his superhero hobby. Or the thing who isn't comfortable with his looks.. or the hulk, the side to the Bruce Banner which he wished he didn't have. I do like cartoons/comics like that.. superman for example I never liked, who the fuck wants a hero that has everything going for him, knows no equal in strength and has only one weakness?
As for the length, I think this has to do with the super hero thing again.. Spiderman has been around since 1963, comics are still sold today. It has no 'target' to work forward to, it's like with the power rangers, throw in some bad guy every week and repeat the same thing over and over.
I now feel bad for comparing spiderman to the power rangers, as the power rangers really are rinse and repeat with no variety whatsoeverPosted 5 years ago #
