    How many pills Pacpon?

    @Aaron,
    12:4:1? Were you going go the boost route or was the rich mixture just better?

  3. 12.4:1 was the compression ratio for the pistons. I think my AFR on that was mid 13's. I needed a bit more fuel on that engine since it was a stroker with a overdome piston setup. Some times overdome piston's will not have a complete chamber "explosion" without a bit of extra fuel. That one seemed to only want to fire on the left side of the piston on # 2 and 5 cylinder. Since it was a Inline 6 and #2 and #5 are balancing opposing cylinders I thought I had main bearing wobble at first. But for some odd reason #2 and #5 would only have a good detonation with a richer fuel mixture.

    Actually the West coast only has 91 octane as high test (generally speaking no certain special "approved" stations). The east coast has 93 octane, although it is a bitch to find a station that sells 93 octane of PURE GASOLINE, not that E10/E15 crap. Ethanol has a lower auto-ignition point that Gasoline. Which entail leaning out your mixture. 14.7 USED to be a good standard for a "perfect" Lambda ratio. With Ethanol in fuel in leans it out so 14.7 will cause a pre-detonation so you usually either need to reflash your rs232 system/ Can-bus ECM. On older cars you can "chip" them to do the same or just cheat and add more fuel pressure. My personal favorite trick is to get a Fuel Pump from the old CIS (Constant flow system of fuel delivery) Porsche's and hot wore the pump. the ones out the old 911 turbo's can deliver up to 100psi and that's no return flow restriction included yet.

    But I personally Use C116 in my VR-4 and 996. I won't put anything but the highest available grade octane when on trips and always carry octane booster in the car. Every thing else I drive gets 93 or higher octane. 91 sarts haveing problems around a 12.4:1 Ratio in my experiences but that was with my Old 1972 240z that I had the 3.1 conversion with overdome pistons and cermanic coating to get the extra piston height. Also on that note if you ever have the chance to get your pistons ceramic coated..DO IT.. it lowers your EGT's and your head temperature immensely.

    Another trick you can do is convince the ECM it's colder then it actually as then it'll run richer.
    Some cheap performance chips do just that by modifying the IAT readings.

    But really it's best to reprogram the fuel map.

    Power can be made with low octane fuel you just have to build the engine to make use of it.

    BTW E85 has some real potential as a performance fuel.

    I might convert one of my cars to E85.

  7. I've help build a couple E85 motor's so I know what's involved but the problem is the standard of E85 is not quite up to par yet. It's still very easy to get some bad fuel. Besides I don't even really like corn to begin with.... so why would I make my engine eat it......

    Ugh today was one of those days where everything seems to go wrong. At least being in despair is making me not feel hungry.
