I think I'll pass on this manga. I don't hate sad stories, I just don't like stories that try too hard to be sad (and this one sounds like one of those stories). Besides, I'm behind on most of the <a href="http://www.sankakucomplex.com/forums/topic.php?id=6183#post-318678" rel="nofollow">manga I'm currently reading</a>, so I don't have time to start any new manga.

Hmm okay. So it really is on the other end of the scale opposite of mangas where everyone is unrealistically happy 24/7. I guess mangakas are aiming to make every case eh. For me Aiko was so far overall a(n) normal/average girl and she's a main character. I guess I could have been fooled as she could only seem that way in contrast with the other characters.

Yeah I see your point and that's quite true. It's less exaggerated (quantity wise; here some people are normal from time to time) than in Nijigahara Holographs though so I guess that could be why I don't find it unrealistically dark. Don't know mawaru penguindrom though.

I assume she said it's unnecessarily dark because every character has an awful life in some way. It's not dramatic for everyone to be dealing with trauma, it's unrealistic.

^I wouldn't say unnecessarily; there's enough light hearted stuff already (and that continues to be the main style of the newer releases) imo so it's good to see mangas on the other side of the scale. Some tend to enjoy both so if mangakas only did the opposite of this people would get bored more easily I believe, at least I would. <blockquote><cite>donyea said:</cite> Is it worth reading ? </blockquote> Ehh you can pretty much understand the direction it's going for by the time you finish chapter 1 already. If you think you're interested in a more messed up style of 'slice of life' (like Mere said, it can be seen as just too dark) with surrealism humour and elements (this is also his attempt at doing something more original than your average manga, even compared to his previous works) then yes it'll most likely be worth your time. If you're not enjoying it at all as you continue to read then you could just drop it. And about Furuya Usamaru, never heard of him but those look interesting, will give them a try later.

Lack of thread is bad. If you don't know this, don't pick it up if you want something light. There is comedy and such, but the main aspects are plain serious. It's magnificently done though. If you get hooked, enjoy joining the ranks of waiting for the next volume (the last one has only recently been published and only scanlated the last week in its entirety). It's not fun. I had marathoned volume 1 through 8 when I'd only discovered it (already was a big fan of Asano Inio's Nijigahara Holographs, Solanin and particularly What a Wonderful World which introduced me to this fabulous mangaka) and it was one of the most important (relating/mindfucks/etc) experiences I've had from only a manga. So Volume 9, all I can say to keep it short is: god damnit Asano ;A; This is continuing to redefine my take on what I previously considered as masterpieces due to too many things. I see it as one of those mangas you should really try if you're into seinen, due to its unique aspects and storytelling. You can't really compare it to other works. You definitively recognize that it's done by the same mangaka as the other 3 titles I've cited but this one does differ in its own way imo.
