Don't worry, we have the same problem with the Turks.
Here is an example.
Instead of saying: ´I know where you live.´ They say: ´I know where your house lives.`

That's what I dislike about other languages... I should be able to figure out a word's pronunciation based on the combination of vowels and consonants surrounding it. It tells me its root and meaning within the context of both the word and the sentence.

I digress, English itself was, as explained by Shoganai, a language in which its own structure would infer the pronunciation of each and every word. In every language it's bound to eventually have ambiguous context, which means there are far too many instances in English where pronunciation doesn't make any sense, besides you claim that you can always infer pronunciation based on this, but it doesn't happen due to the enormous usage of foreign words, a year ago I didn't know how to pronounce façade and I learnt how to thanks to the Internet, I still get people who pronounce it incorrectly and there isn't a logical explanation on how to pronounce it without requiring teaching English and French history.

I am NOT whining about accents, after all I speak Cantonese.
Although it's quite too late to make changes, I wish there were something such as à, á, ã or some sort of symbols in English to characterise accents, it uses only ā and ä, because in many Latin based languages a literate can take any extremely difficult book and speak most words without issues, whilst it's impossible to do the same in English.

I believe if done so, it would ease the lives of many, at least no future high school English teacher would need to correct a student every two sentences when they're reading out loud Shakespeare.

When my dad got arrested for yelling at my mother in California (yep, people thought they were Mexicans and stuff) she defended him in court when he pledged not guilty of domestic violence (female lawyer, judge and prosecutor). My mother got yelled at for moving her hands too much and was approached as a repressed and hurt woman intimidated by her husband (which got my father in jail).

A travel guide in one of my university's student newspapers once said that Italian was "a picturesque dialect of gesture, halfway between naval semaphore and the Queensberry Rules"

Don't know about queensberry rules but I can think of a lot of situations where the gestures look like naval semaphore, e.g. telling someone to screw off, saying "I don't know", explaining something. The gesture she does at 1:53, but done with only one hand, is usually made when saying "what the hell hare you saying?"

And the funny thing is that the French language refuses to accept words from other languages but many languages end up with useless French words.

The French are ultra-xenophobic. They hate any foreign influence on their glorious French culture.

Have fun pointing out to them that their pure French language is of Italian origin and is filled with German words. Even their country's name comes from a bunch of German invaders.

France's entire history seems to be one long series of German invasions with century of English invasions and occupations in the middle ages. All preceded by an Italian invasion and centuries long occupation.

French words are everywhere, it was the language spoken throughout most royal dynasties during the middle ages (even in non-French speaking "countries"). They are not too bad, they just make it harder to read English since the way most French words absorbed by English are pronounced different. French is still, to this day, the language of diplomacy, it's silly to just rage about them.

Also, most teachers suck, not just English teachers, get used to life.

Many here are willing to learn in the future/learning Japanese, myself included, so learning a few new alphabets isn't too bad. Sankakuans, teaching more about English language history than those bloody incompetent bastards I often get to "teach" me.

And the funny thing is that the French language refuses to accept words from other languages but many languages end up with useless French words.

You can blame the Normans for the fucked up English spelling system.

Before 1066, our alphabet included a few extra letters that were essential for our language (Latin has fewer sounds than English, so using the Latin alphabet is stupid, when you think about it). If you learnt the English alphabet 1000 years ago, you could pick up any book and know exactly how each word was pronounced.

The Runic alphabet that we used before Christianity was even better, although learning meant learning a completely new alphabet, rather than a few extra symbols.

And the Normans introduced all those unnecessary French words. The English language was doing perfectly well without them.

Well done on finding the one example of the English making the biggest mess of a name.

Now have a look at what the French do to classical names. Look at how they pronounce "Achilles". All we do is fuck up the last vowel; they pronounce it "asheel", like a bunch of faggots.

LOL, this just made my (language) day. I could never could get the hang of French, it sounds too gay to me.

Because Greek and Latin words have been used in our language for a long time, and they have gone through our sound changes.

Germans didn't discover them until last week, so the classical words and names that they use haven't gone through any sound changes.

That's what I was looking for, thanks! It makes a tiny bit more sense, now.

Are you complaining because English has different accents? If so, then please go and die.

Part of it was me complaining that I get "corrected" by people who think with absolute certainty that what I said is wrong, with daily usage words it's fine, but when people get the Mai-coal-anje-lô out I feel like when people claim man never set foot on the moon.

I am NOT whining about accents, after all I speak Cantonese.
Because the English (and Americans) couldn't care less how a name is pronounced in its original language; they tell YOU how it's pronounced.

This is the most important thing that can be said on the topic, but nevertheless, allow me to explain some shit and educate you.
