The apparent use of the Koran in popular and long running anime/manga “JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure” has aroused umbrage amongst some in the Arabic speaking world, it would appear. A villain in the series apparently reads the book whilst plotting to kill the protagonist – it would appear he did not possess any religious motivation for killing JoJo, so this is clearly a calumny against Islam, or so some shrill voices in the Arabic speaking world have said.
Publisher Shueisha has already bowed to pressure and suspended distribution of the offending products, though they brush off the criticism as the result of an accident: “A book (in Arabic) to evoke the atmosphere of the setting, Egypt, was needed, and the Koran was unknowingly used. We apologise for any offence caused to devotees of Islam”. A storm in a teacup? No word on what the page in question actually says. Via Itainews.
