Semantics aside, I'm curious what other countries force censorship of adult materials in this day and age in the way Japan does it. I know there's outright bans of it in some places and bans on certain genres in others (rape, loli/shota, animal, necro), but Japan is the only place I know of that allows some crazy things but says genitals can't be seen. I think it's because of that, that people coined the term 'Japanese censorship', since they're the only ones people tend to know of doing it this way. Anyone know of any other countries censoring like Japan does?
Turkey is infamous for blurring and pixelating Nobita's shoes in one episode of Doraemon, and the end result is that something innocent suddenly looks incredibly lewd to any person used to see movies with japanese censorship.
I think the way things are now are the result of a loophole. The original intent of the law was to ban all porn but the definition of porn was very specific in that it was classified as porn as long as genitals are showing. I bet at the time the law was imposed stuff we find today wouldn't be allowed but as the world modernized the power enforcing the law started giving less and less fucks about the content. Socthe result is that they do the most extreme stuff they can as long as it doesn't show genitals.
