>> a reinterpretation of Mobile Suit Gundam’s original 1979 series
Didn't sunrise just do this and called it "Buddy Complex"?
I'm quite interested in this, even though I'm always highly annoyed when the excitement of a grand battle is ruined by a single mobile suit destroying a whole score of enemies without breaking a sweat.
You just remembered me about that one Macross Battle Cut together Video i saw on Youtube.. and i found it funny how one Guy in a Suit was able to destroy a bunch of Tanks cause the other 3 or 4 Dudes didnt know what the fuck to do and in the End he died from a 1 vs 1, just kinda laughable. (Well he achieved his Goal thus Winning, even tho he lost the 1vs1)... just lol.
This was a bit easier to explain except for later on in all the series. Zeon Zakus being the only MS and Feds lack of exp against fighting the suits. As shit went on it god stupid. Kinda like Shonen anime characters destroying landscapes/etc with as much effort as us taking a piss.
Sayla here, showcasing why she is best girl 1979.
coz Sayla's nipples are PINK!
I was more a macroos boy until i saw the Unicorn ovas, that was more than enough to make me interested in the Gundam universe. I love Macross, but i have to admit that Gundam has a richer history.
I just collected several Hundred Gigs from both Series, so what would be better to start first, Macross or Gundam?
Macross first. You'll be able to watch it all comfortably in 2 to 3 weeks max. Watching everything Gundam is a lifelong task...
However. Shouji Kawamori basically has held universe authority for everything Macross after the '85 movie, in a way similar to George Lucas. That is a very bad thing, as I'm sure you realize. For the various Macross anime it's bad because he doesn't give a shit about world building.
Plus was great because Shinichiro Watanabe co-directed, and spaceship mecha designer Kazutaka Miyatake fleshed out what you could call the Macross "expanded" universe.
You won't experience the immense depth and draw of this universe unless you're willing to delve into (largely untranslated) print media like mecha guides and official RPG books...
With Gundam, you get most of the universe building for free just by watching the anime.
