While many devout fans may regard Kill la Kill’s American TV debut as a positive notion, the uninitiated may have a very different perspective – Kill la Kill will begin its broadcast on Toonami on February 7th.

I can already hear the feminists screaming about cartoons encouraging objectification of women because their outfits are...lets just say minimalistic.
pretty sure if the main character was a guy that wore "minimalist" clothes instead of a girl, this show would have very little fans, and otaku males would've raged about it. i know there are "naked' guys in the anime too, but not like the girls and their camera angles.
You are right, just changing the gender wouldn't be enough. The plot would also need rewriting as men and women often find different things interesting, and this is a shounen title even if you disregard the skimpyness.
Kratos? The movie 300?
If anything this show was women taking charge dominating men.
You mean like He-Man?
Nonsense, i'm a feminist dude and i LOVE skimpy outfits! :D
>dude
So you are a male and thus your argument is completely invalid.
Doesn't KLK have a very large internet following in the West? People already complained and simply left when no one replied to them.
Thing is objectification is not evil, the evil is the people who acts stupid on the image objectification creates.
Oh That shouldn't be an issue, Feminists can't object to what they can't see. Toonami is gonna censor the crap outta this show.
But I thought everyone was all over minimalistic designs these days. Isn't that why Apple is so popular?
There's plenty of buff guys wearing little clothing later on in the series.
Nudist BEEEEEEEACHH
Naked dude with purple LEDs glued on their nipples is very acceptable.
I concur.
no wais they are going to show her on the cartoon network....
the moms are going to freak out.
Those moms should freak out that their kids are up at 2:00 am Sunday morning when this most likely will air.
Toonami doesn't air Weekdays from 4pm - 6pm anymore hasn't for a long time.
It now airs on [adult swim] Sundays 12am - 6am
Wow, this dub actually sounds pretty good. I usually hate all dubs. Senketsu sounds weird but w/e.
The English voices seem pretty good to me, except for Senketsu and Mako. Mako's doesn't seem to fit at all, and Senketsu's might get better as the series goes on.
And before the up/down-voting starts, I tend to watch anime both subbed and dubbed, although I've been watching subbed more often recently. I think that there are both good and bad dubs in both English and Japanese; it just depends on the overall project management and the person picked to voice the character.
KiLL la KiLL > DuMB la DuB
The censorship is going to be amazing (especially around both "Mother" daughter rape scenes)
Yes show kill la kill so the feminist freaks of the west have something new to whine about.
Scantily cladded females plus incest relationships. What is toonami/kill la kill producers thinking.
KEEP this type of anime away from prying western eyes instead of giving them free reasons to kill the genre.
Have we not all learned from the new censorship imposed on anime from Japan?
For me the dubs areok, except for Senketsu, but the rest are very decent to good.
Congratulations USA, Latin-Americans envy you, we want Toonami back :c
mmm yeah. The kids will love it, no doubt.
oh boy, a violent ecchi cringefest.
over rated junk.
I'm for this since it would probably the first time in a while that a fairly new series makes it to the states. Usually
they're already dated when they FINALLY get an American translation.
-Unless is has become false over the last few years. Then disregard what's stated above.
The animation of this show always reminded me of if 'Dead Leaves' was done with a bigger budget and had the team who did Gurran Laggan adding their own style into the mix.
I'm just curious as to what will be changed/edited for its Toonami premiere.
who cares that news?
Anime fans.
I'm having horrible flashbacks to the 4kids Bully la Bully parody video. No way this will be as bad.
Right?
But the Bully la Bully video was awesome!
No it won't be that since it's not censored or re-edited
Speaking of ever wonder what 4Kids Franky would be like in their One Piece?
Keep in mind is fake
http://youtu.be/gxJaFunXGVs
While the dub sounds as bad as expected, I don't see any censorship I'd expect to see for a toonami tier show??? What's going on?
There's no nipples in the show, so nothing to censor.
Did they show Sera's mom get raped? Although the original was just"
"We're robbers, bang bang, everybody dead, oh shit girl with a fork, bang, let's show 1 boob and say where going to rape her before the cut"
So it's not like they'd have to edit anything but a boob for 4 secs..
Where have you been? This isn't the afternoon Toonami they use to have. They've are Deadman Wonderland, Black Lagoon(uncut) and Hellsing Ultimate(uncut).
These shows air after midnight as long as there is no full nudity or sex they'll air it.
Last I checked Black Lagoon was still censored as fuck on Toonami.
Only "Fuck" and maybe "Shit" were censored and none of the violence was censored.
Gonna be honest, I haven't watched toonami in at least 10 years, I never would have expected them to get so lax about censorship. Props, I guess..
Now if only they could hire actors that knew how to act.
I'm not going to pretend it sounds great or anything but hey it's an option for those that like things in their own language and the more exposure for a show the better. Maybe people would get more interested in other anime.
I can't think of anime Aniplex dub I like other than Gurren Laggan
FUNimtion doesn't dub every anime y'know. This was by Aniplex, Viz does Naruto, Bandai use to do Gundam.
It's not always the VA's fault it's the director's fault. Some of these people are professorial actors. Some of them even do Video Game work where they sound fine, like the Persona games
what gets me is if you watch any, and I mean any american cartoon, the acting is on point. But when it comes to dubbed anime, the acting is fucking awful, and I don't get it. Does funimation still lack funds to hire real actors?
It could be that they keep hiring from the exact same pool of VA's that have been in the business too long, and they are not getting any better with that experience. Which is quite weird because they are paid much more over here in the states, compared to VA's in Japan, and some would think that would equal more quality.
I meant "They've aired" oh and Attack on Titan was uncut too
I prefer it when the VA's don't try to be squeaky asians. Honestly whats jarring isn't their voices its the use of Japanese names thats breaks the flow.
Purists will shit their pants at the thought but the VA'ing would flow better if the names were localized.
If you watched Big Hero 6, I want to point out the difference between Honey Lemon's pronunciation of Japanese names, VS everyone else's, and it's her way of pronouncing that is so irritating to the ear, and what you always hear in dubs.
And like, just the overall inability to act. One take, reading off of a paper, not trying to give life to the character.
Japanese voice-acting sucks anyway.
To be honest though KLK's nudity isn't erotic but rather comedic, so I fully expect this to be uncensored AND hated by feminists and other moral guardians.
The English dub though... I guess some people really can't read. After a few years of watching anime in it's original dub youi pretty much only need the subtitles as a guide for the plot heavy stuff. 30 to 50% of the stuff you can understand without even looking at the subtitles.
sht dub. sht anime. any fanboy has already seen it anyways. why start hyperventilating when normalfag casuals see this on tv and on cartoon network out of all places.
tv lol
"While many devout fans may regard Kill la Kill’s American TV debut as a positive notion, the uninitiated may have a very different perspective"
Isn't it usually the other way around?
