He's the protagonist of an anime called "SWORD" Art Online, so he's going to use a sword in a friggin FPS and win against these supposed "pros".
Why? Because Gary Stu, that's why.
Swords do exist in GGO as seen in the ending. Even though the VRMMORPG "Gun Gale Online" is based upon the "Sword Art Online" game engine. Since Kirito's specialty is wielding double swords may carry over to GGO and he will most likely wield two guns.

And that makes him less of a "screw the rules Kirito can't have any imperfections" because what?
Kawahara has been giving Kirito illogical hax ever since Eincrad and the only enemy he had ever shown any real difficulties in fighting is the friggin game creator himself(read: more haxes). Does that make him any less of a Gary Stu? No.
Gary Stu is the male counterpart of Mary Sue, which is kind of fictional character archetype that is most of the time depicted as basically "too perfect", or if it has any flaws, they are meant to make the audience feel sympathy for the characters. Mary Sues are known for having "overpowered" special powers, talents and for being liked by everyone inside their fictional worlds.

As someone who played any MMO this is still painful to watch anytime they start talking...
Out of curiosity, what parts? Because I've played a few MMOs now and nothing has stuck out at me as especially out of place for MMO mechanics when put into the context of a VR world.

story just revolves around a week after he logged in in GGO. Kirito being OP as fuck for a beginner. yada-yada

After seeing the turnout for the premier at AX, SAO is most definitely getting a third season.
I would not be so sure it would be feasible... Alicization arc is almost endless...
Wrong. It begins on Book 10, and the game scenario in my opinion is concluding, it'll be done by Book 15/16. One more should wrap it. You could do it in 26 episodes easily.
Ignoring the fact the first 2 arcs were abridged editions of the Light Novel material, they cut so much character development and inner monologues for Kirito and some other things to get to the action quicker.
Also they cut the Caliber material in the 2nd arc where it should have been covered for after GGO.

but yeah, Alicization arc is doing damn long just in describing something, so it could be short if A-1 use the same formula as season 1:not explaining anything, leaving the anime only watchers clueless but still like it, and the readers infuriated as hell
author said in an interview he had 10 volumes of material for alicization but some of that could be the extra side stuff he puts together all the time

Wrong. It begins on book 9. And the next arc will be as long as they getting to the axiom church at the current pasing.
I am reading volume 14, and I read a summary of the web novels, so I basically know the whole story. SAO will probably have 17 volumes, If they animate them thei'll have enough material for 25 chapters.
Although, the axiom church arc could probably be done in a few episodes, because there aren't that much scenes. the pasing in the novel is getting incredibly slow.
The could do a 12-13 episode season from Asuna's novel, plus all the short story stuff from volume 9, if they tried hard enough.
But, yeah, the next big arc is looooooong.
