The corner-cutting/animation upgrade marketing studio Shaft has held fast to its namesake yet again with the recent “debasement” of Nisekoi‘s 3rd BD, questionably removing several of the once gorgeous and artistically constructed backdrops and replacing them with abstract designs more reminiscent of a Monogatari.
The BD can be seen on the right, with the original and to some at least highly preferable TV version on the left:

so the get rid of scenic backgrounds in favor of powerpoint template backgrounds?
the poop is dat
the guys that worked so hard to draw and put those fancy backgrounds in eventually found out their hard works got removed in the BD version.... they must be sad and pissed at the same time.
Most of the scenes quoted are when the story tries to appeal the characters, or show that Raku and the girl are in their own world. Showing the background for those are quite distracting.
Ask the mangaka. Those were what he originally draw.
So it's a case of slavishly replicating the manga even though it was probably like that because it was quick and easy? Not going to put any thought into the adaptation?
Shaft are dumb enough to think the monogatari style works on every damn anime they make.
You go it backwards. Shaft has that one style they always use and it worked well with Bakemonogatari.
But THIS is a pretty shitty example of Shaft handiwork, regardless.
Nope, they think SZS style work on every anime they make.
SHAFT should just stick on making more SZS..Anything else besides that is just overrated shit.
Shaft is the ruin of anime.
I'm sorry but I'm sure the majority of us would say we don't need this 'monogatari' theme for Nisekoi. Yes?
By majority I mean everyone. >:(
It looks pretty obvious that it took less effort to do the BDs than the actual TV screenings.
yep. the tv version definitely looked better
Not me. I still think BD > TV.
Plus, with these kind of changes you really have to watch it to get the effect.
Why? Shaft, why?
what was wrong with the tv one????
Leave it to Shaft to make the BD releaae worse.
They just keep screwing up, lately.
Looks like BD worse than TV
I dont understand why they would do that...id rather download the TV version instead.
TV is better...
Its just a stupid decision. I'm not getting blu-rays of this. Really sad.
Not impressed!! :(
I thought SHAFT puts effort in their BD releases :(
Guess I was wrong!
Shaft never impresses me.
Why would they even do this? The work is already there, surely it wouldn't take much to put on Blu Ray as is? The TV version wasn't censored was it?
By the way, why did they stop making the show 20 episodes in? There's material there to do..
Everyday you use to air something costs money. And they thought they'd have the next part of Monogatari series done in time to air the rest of the season.
So basically they threw Nisekoi under the bus for Monogatari? No chance of a Season 2?
Same as with everything else : "If it sells well..."
Setting aside how dumb it actually is, I can respect them for sticking to their guns.
Well... kinda maybe? That's probably not what they're doing :(
There are supposed to be 2 planets between Earth and our sun. Also I'm pretty sure they are not that close to one another.
That's just sloppy work with no thought put into it. The original picture makes sense. If the scene were viewed with a zoom lense from near orbit around the earth, the moon and sun would appear comparable in size, due to the sun being around 400 times the diameter of the moon, but around 400 times farther away. Though the relative sizes would be a bit different, an image roughly similar to that could be possible.
The BD version isn't even remotely close to making sense. Even assuming you had a deep enough telescopic lense, the Earth is going to appear as a tiny dot compared to the sun if it's farther away, since the sun is over 100 times its diameter. And if that's the moon, it would appear even smaller than the earth.
And unlike the original version, which made the sun appear as bright as you would expect, the BD makes the earth and distant stars brighter than the sun. Assuming you stepped down the exposure enough to keep the sun from appearing overexposed, the entire background, including the Earth, should be solid black.
The planet aren't aligned, and if you take the reality to make this, you will not be able to see the Earth and the Moon in the BR version.
I've always liked SHAFT's BDs more... and while I didn't like Nisekoi, I don't think I'd watch the BD...
Like, I love SHAFT, but the only thing I really liked about the show was that while it WAS from SHAFT, it wasn't overly "SHAFT" like the BDs are, and even then, the BDs SHAFTing looks lazy and poorly done...
You know... nobody wants to dump money into something that isn't their cash cow.
wth, it ought to be the other way around... bandwidth saved.
I like the actual backgrounds with the little kirakira's all over. Lets remember Shaft did Ef before Monogatari, and Ef was in my opinion the best style. It had just the right amount of line art, shadows and geometry to add to the story, NOT replace the story
AHHH KIMOCHI II ZE
Who cares, they made Seishiro-chan cuter!
At this point, Shaft's just being retarded.
Am I the only one that liked these? I don't really feel like the background added to the moments, and in fact feel as if the detail detracted from these character heavy moments.
What the hell were they thinking?
Still waiting for stereogatari. I hope black hanekawa makes a return.
