I guess because kids already gravitate towards pokemon. They dont need their parents recommending it to them. In japan kids are probably born knowing all the pokemon from the most recent gen.

Oh! My Goddess is a drag. It starts off well, but gets really, really boring after volume 15 or so. But so many marathon series do. They should just draw a line and do something else sometimes...
One Piece is a good example for kids because it has an assload of actual reading. It leans more towards being a novel rather than a glorified coloring book like some other manga *cough* *cough* -insert your favorite non "One Piece" manga here- Love you.
