Not really, Its very well liked and highly praised but personally I didn't think much of it. The story is pretty poor, There are honestly far too few action /fighting scenes and the characters feel pretty 1 dimentioshion I loved the idea of a David vs Goliath story but Attack on Titan is to me average at best.
Why everyone doesn't seem to care about Erns birthday is another question; again, personally, I found him to be a pretty poor character he's a very generic shounen protagonist (in that he seems to be the most important person alive since he holds the key to several important anythings) and really quite useless unless as a Titan. Jean, Aramin, Ana, Levai really most characters are probably better told than he is and in less time.

i love how someone spelled "Eren" as "Ellen" ... i can understand that they don't have the letter L in their vocabulary but how they fuck do you mix up a females name with a males!?
Your average japanese person doesnt know what's a female name and what's a males name, just as your average western people probably cant tell whether a japanese name is male or female.

I mean ok... so you make a nice paper collage, go and bake him/her a cake and sing what ever the fuck they sing over there for happy birthday.... then what? the cake magically gets eaten by the character jumping from the plastered paper? jeez, i hope not! if that's the case they you have some serious mental issue or are smoking some lethal crack. No! you either eat the cake or shared it with some of your friends (and if your doing this type of celebration in the first place then you probably dont have many friends to begin with so the first option will probably be most common). at the end of the day nothing happened. no one acknowledged it except you, and top it off the poor birthday kid never got a slice of that cake... thats like the greatest insult you can give a birthday kid!!!
