This ain't some high-budget, high-profile series made by Ghibli y'know...
This kind of series relies mainly on the quality and quantity of the joke content. Just look at Nichijou and Nichibros; their art style and animation are far-off than top-notch. Still, they managed to be good in their own ways.
I on the other hand find that Takao has the most likable face I have ever seen in an anime in years.
Maybe something to do with cat like face portions?
