The tortured hopes of Final Fantasy fans have been dashed yet again, this time by a rather well-received SNES-styled “retro-spective” recap of the Final Fantasy XIII story released to help players make sense of the storyline of Lightning Returns.

It seems to have secured a somewhat more positive reaction than the original, at least:

I wish the entire game was like this, it 'might' be worth playing then
So it's the graphics and sound that make the game bad? What about the crappy characters and BS plot? Kinda shallow to think it might be redeemable by appealing to the SNES generation, as if it were the limitations of the previous consoles that made the past games good.
Hold on, that guy is still right.
It isn't the SNES graphics that would have made this game better, it's better because they cut out the awful character interactions and dialogues.
Though one could argue that by proxy the limitations made developers to focus on more important things, instead of disregarding everything else to toss out more eyecandy.
But the pile of crap that is XIII is out already, so turning it into a SNES port won't do a thing.
No it was the gameplay that was horrible (at least for me).
FF stories are always convoluted or confusing, no point griping there. But turned based party combat was perfected with ABS, the auto pilot gameplay in 13 might as well been a movie given the degree of interaction most of the game required. And, while one long hallway may be forgiven in the 8-bit, 2 discs of nothing but hallway and cutscenes are unforgivable in modern gaming.

some parts uses only 8bit Frequencies
Sometimes uses 16bit (most of times in battles)
Is easy to notice by the frequencies that are used.
But most parts of the video uses 8bit..

snes chiptune was known to be the first video game to have orquestral emulation of sounds in their console. in the video they used is completely differente type of genre, inclusively chiptune

Uh, let's just try to look at the bright side. At least we can expect to have an actual RPG gameplay rather than watching the game play itself like how it was in the original FF13

Last story has a very old school feel to it with modern graphics (what counts as amazing graphics on the wii). Its a lot more final fantasy than final fantasy. We can only hope last story gets a sequal on a decent console.
The stuff that they left out of this recap is exactly what makes FF13 an awful game and an awful movie. For every part in the game where you are not directly controlling the game, any actual information about what is happening takes up only a small fraction of the time and that's if they are revealing anything at all.
The rest of the time is spent doing stuff that that only apologists of FF13 can possibly care about. I don't need them to waste my time showing me 5 seconds of an emotion on someone's face, 30 seconds of snow being cool to the people who are about to die anyways, 10 seconds of Sazh talking to his tiny chocobo. Hope and Vanille are already the punching bags of criticism for the game.
You know how people say this is a good game once you get past the boring parts and get past all the horrible dialogue? Great idea, anything can be good if you just ignore what makes it bad. Enjoy your game that you will never convince people it's good.
You guys forget something - playing FFXIII like this would only make you aware of how substanceless it actually was. All the crap that made up the game was masked with pretty graphics.

I remembered S_E saying FF13 is the last of it's type, so I assume FF15 (AKA Versus AKA funny DMC FF Styled Game) will be the new type of FF ?
thank god I didn't buy PS3 or PS4 to play this crappy game.
More games like FF6/7/plot wise (with actual plot) and more battle system of X-2 (changing class mid-battle, but not able to use all classes mid-battle is a plus, and being able to die quickly even on higher levels because some of the attacks enemies use are gravity based (tear 1/4th of hp or 1/2 of hp with one hit when you have 9999 HP is painful)
Graphics is just a bonus in a game, we need good gameplay, story and NO MORE FEMALE SEPHIROTH! (AKA Lightning)
