SAO II Announced: “Gun Gale Online”

SAO fans finally have confirmation of a new season for 2014, by way of an ever so brief announcement shoved in at the end of the Extra Edition swimwear/recap special.
That the new anime will play out in the gunplay-centric world of Gun Gale Online was confirmed as well, again not at all surprising – though a relief to anyone fearing it might somehow be pushed back into 2015.

3rd Arc
There will be almost no Asuna, Lisbeth, Silica, and Suguha
So is this a direct sequel, with the same characters? Or just like taking place in the same universe and has nothing to do with the first series?
it's a continuation, gun gale was next in the light novel series. the universe is the same...the game this time is different.
Would that be before or after Accel World then?
There are some old and some new characters, Kirito is the only old char to play the new game (he is the one displayed on imaged 8) but several of the other chars watch him from outside the game.
It's before Accel world. Accel World is another 40 years or so in the future and the "game" that introduce some of the time acceleration things from Accel World is not until the next major arc after GGO (with some smaller stuff between).
Ok its a different game, but does it have anything to do with the first series? Like the same characters who have lived through the first series, playing this new game?
well, there's a short chapter where Kirito runs into Haruyuki while beta testing some new hardware. So there's that.
There is plenty of debate on that actually. AW makes many suggestions to events in SAO and there are theories across the board to the parents of kuroyukihime to the technology that makes AW possible being related to the alicization project. These are all just theories and while it is confirmed more or less it exists in the same world (with direct references to the NerveGear) the rest is just conjecture. The events and characters might in fact be totally unrelated. We will have to wait to see.
@11:31. Yes it's the same,and it has strong connections with the first arc. The main character is still Kirito. But He will get a new cool assistant to help him pull off this game. I don't want to spoil, so I will give you a brief review: Basically strange phenomenon happened in another MMORPG game called Gun Gale Online, and Kirito feels like He knows this phenomenon had something to do with a character / group He knew from old SAO. So He enters the game to investigate the phenomenon. This is one of the coolest arc in SAO, and will give you a very different feels from the first and second arc. It's definitely worth watching!!

Aincrad was a pretty solid arc. The character interaction was neat, characters were dynamic and grew as the story progressed. The basic plot wasn't original, but hadn't been done well in a long time.
Fairy Dance was probably the weakest arc so far. Despite that, I actually felt the interaction with Suguha x Kirito was really interesting and neat. For reference, cousins are OK in Japan, so you need to translate that as you watch it. That said, I hold that it was the weakest arc - it felt mainly lilke it was supposed to just introduce the world of Aincrad and Lyfa to the mix.
Phantom Bullet is the middle tier in terms of overall arcs, however Sinon as a character is the most interesting female lead/semilead the series has seen so far. Her emotions are fantastic, motivation so perfect, and general character development handled really well. She's the reason the arc is worth watching.
Mother's Rosario is, honestly, probably the best arc in the series so far. It's short ( 1 book ) and to the point, and does a great job of endearing you to the characters in the little time available. Yuuki's pretty cute and the main character for this arc is Asuna, not Kirito.
Alicization won't be animated for sure, but if they do a season 3, I'd expect it to be this.
SAO isn't a top 3 anime ever award, but it does a lot of things well in really flashy high-budget ways. The characters are fun and easy to like, and the villains are easy to pick out and fun to hate.
cant be surprised some people think the fairy dance was the weakest of the arcs. its cause of the whole cousin thing that had some people pissed off especially when the main fanbase liked the previous couple from the first arc, and some of the eps made it felt like he was involved in a massive harem at times. it would have been better if they did made them real siblings instead of cousins so people wont disliked the idea of them hooking up in the virtual world.
also in contrary to rumors . no I really doubt their gonna made this series into an ecchi spectacle though I have no problem with it at all, let alone have the main character from SAO into this series considering his role has ended in the alfehim arc.

To all who didn't know this was supposed to be the third part of the first arc which killed the SAO anime for most people because the second part ended so oddly.

The plot and premise are awful.
In fact, it's already been done in the first half of the original SAO season.
Then kirito = girl for fanservice.
It's just......repeating the same scenario for the sake of milking the series.
