Atelier fans have been delighted by the surprise announcement of New Atelier Rorona, a remake/”renewal” of the first game of the Atelier Arland RPG series, Gust having decided it deserved more than a mere handheld port.

While possessing the same alchemical gameplay of the rest of the series, Atelier Rorona was the odd game in the trilogy with its cartoonish 3D-art style, strange battle gameplay, and flawed time management system, so the news that it will be both “renewed” and “tweaked” should be well received.

They have even dragged back Kishida Mel to supervise the 3D models and make sure they accurately match up to the quality of his art this time:

Whilst not everything is revealed yet, there is mention of more playable characters and events among other content additions. There also will be PS3 and Vita cross-compatibility and bonuses for saves from the Vita versions of Atelier Totori and Meruru.

The game is due to be released in November in Japan for both the PS3 and PS Vita.
