Japan’s latest teaching scandal, involving a youthful teacher who worked part-time at a “health” establishment in order to pay off her vast card debts, is currently exercising the imagination of many.
The 29-year-old Osaka high school teacher accrued huge credit card debts from purchases of clothes and cosmetics, and her teaching salary apparently proved unable to pay them off – at one point being some 2 million yen in arrears.
In order to pay off her debts, she resolved to work as a part-time “hotel health” girl at one of Osaka’s vast number of brothels, over a 6 month period managing to earn 1.6 million yen.
Having kept her debts secret from her family and having only contact with her patrons during her “health” work, she reasoned that both her money troubles and perilous choice of sideline would remain a secret.
However in March the local education board received an anonymous mail tipping them off as to her sideline, resulting in an “unprecedented and inexcusable scandal,” according to officials, who also sympathetically claim that “she resisted sex work but the demands of making the payments forced her into it.”
The teacher admits her sideline, saying “it was inexcusable to my students.”
Even being an active prostitute is not quite enough to result in the sacking of a Japanese teacher however – she has received a 6 month suspension from her teaching post.
There is a fair amount of sympathy for her tale online, although it appears she has thus far been spared them digging up profile pictures from her brothel’s site:
“What kind of ero-manga is this!?”
“The real version of one of those AVs about lascivious teachers, perfect!”
“To think all those teachers, nurses and students on the brothel HPs were real after all!”
“I want to know how on earth she got busted.”
“So a customer was one of her students?”
“I don’t get the kind of person who would rat her out.”
“Either her employer, a customer or someone at the school it would seem.”
“Probably another girl or a competitor.”
“Obviously she refused to let someone do her and they tattled on her as revenge.”
“Spiteful, whoever they were.”
“What kind of endurance must she have had to manage both teaching and sex work!”
“Imagine if you were using a brothel and the girl there was your kid’s homeroom teacher…”
“The only thing inexcusable to her pupils about this is not letting them have a go!”
“I’d go to a brothel with real teachers…”
“She didn’t really make much money considering the timescale involved and what she was doing. At least she wasn’t embezzling public funds, beating her students or drunk driving like the rest though.”
“Women are so lucky to be able to sell their bodies any time they run out of money!”
“Poor lady. I hope she fixes her money troubles and doesn’t let this wreck her life. Hang in there!”
“This whole scandal is 100 times better than male teachers buying sexual services from their pupils!”
“Honestly I think she deserves praise. So many of her peers just embezzle school funds, but she tried to pay it off however she could. Although civil servants are still banned from having extra jobs, I realise.”
“Better than some wretch who just declares bankruptcy.”
“How did she manage to get so badly into debt as a 29-year-old civil servant? There is something fishy about all this.”
“She’ll have to quit, after hearing this who could sit through a lesson with her?”
“Guys, I’m still waiting for her shop’s HP.”
“If one of her pupils got to learn of this and then blackmailed her into sex it would be perfect ero-manga material.”
“Who wouldn’t want to specify her at their local!”
