The very Chinese ingenuity with which a souvenir foodstuff has been packaged is the latest made in China product to be securing praise for its “innovative” marketing, both in China and beyond.
More examples were soon exhumed:
Online there is some awe at the dastardly cunning seemingly exhibited by even the most humble PRC product – although even in Japan everything from games nested in gigantic boxes to bento with cunningly raised bottoms exploit similar tactics to a lesser extent, as the more fair-minded are quick to point out:
“It’s almost as if it were packaged by Amazon!”
“What a waste of genius!”
“Does it explode as well?”
“These guys only think of ways of cheating people, don’t they?”
“For a made in China product, this is actually quite an innocent example.”
“At least it isn’t poisonous.”
“At least the contents will not get damaged.”
“At least the balls aren’t hollow.”
“You’d think this would be a bit insulting to the person who was given it as a souvenir.”
“The seller, buyer, or recipient – who actually doesn’t lose face here?”
“If you can still eat it, it is OK by Chinese standards.”
“Come on, they do the same stuff in Japan. Those bento with raised bottoms you find everywhere, where about half the package is empty space.”
“In Japan, all eroge are packaged that way:”
“Taiwan is not to be beaten!:”
“Japan can still top that!:
“What about this – a $15,000 high-end Goldmund DVD player which contains a standard Pioneer DVD player:”
“Made in China drives:”
“More Chinese packaging:”
“The Chinese seem to have no conception of the notion of gaining the trust of customers or actually pleasing them, do they?”
“I can’t help but think they are more interested in cheating people than they are in profits.”
“It seems they really do think this sort of thing is clever, and not just in an ironic way. The person being cheated is to blame for being stupid, and if you’re caught you can just cut and run and do the same thing with a new company.”
“The whole Chinese economy is like this. The numbers they put out bear as much relation to actuality as this box does to its contents.”
Translated:
I’m Chinese.
Even as Chinese, when we see these we find it ridiculous.
But what can we do? The government is useless and corrupt.
And the people are ‘low quality’ (TN: couldn’t find a good replacement)
China censors information from outside the country, and often fabricates it’s own propaganda, as someone who has grown up in China, I’ve felt this time and time again.
Within China, it’s impossible to use Facebook, and recently Google has been blocked as well.
Hopefully someone who know’s Chinese would help me do a translation, Google seems to get it wrong all the time.
Damn. Looks like no matter where we come from, we’re all getting screwed.
I guess it’s a little heartwarming to know that civilians everywhere understand how it feels to be screwed over. We all have that in common.
Dat Sandwich…
Any source for these images?
IRL me working with magazine project, we are doing articles on foreign trade with a message of rabid xenophobia. Could use these!
I am very disappointed, last time, I tried to get a premium package of first-grade Chinese air, but I found some wired looking snack-balls in it.
What a scam.
the Chinese are worse than the jews
HOLY SHIT, I actually had the one in the second picture. My grandparents were pretty annoyed; thankfully we got it for free.
I bet it’s the same when they use a condon.
Slave made goods, FLom Amiable VeneLable Cathay!!!
That sandwich is the most diabolical IMO
buy one of those and end up as Yuuko from nichijou having a bad day.
Surprisingly, Artscow has yet to disappoint me.
well you got have some room to put the explosives in.
well, terrorists have used:
plane bombs
car bombs
shoe bombs
old bombs
mailbox bombs
mail bombs
house bombs
suicide bombers
why not food bombs?
my favorite has to be that sandwich hahaha.
Only in China where you can buy a 500GB hard drive that can only hold 128MB of data.
I don’t think they even make 128MB drives anymore. I can’t even match the 256Mb one I bought 10 years ago.
Also, everyone else is not as innocent as they seem.
A 500Gb drive actually has a capacity of about 475Gb. The sellers use metric measurements, not the actual x1024 increase per unit size increase.
but they tell you on the side of box…
besides, if youre going to complain about a 2.4% difference, then computers are probably not for you.
anyways, why make a 128MB drive to sell for, what, like $.25? when you can take the same materials and make a 4GB to sell for $10?
I guess the concept of “Truth in Advertising” laws
hasn’t reached the PRC yet.
I build my own gaming rigs for myself and for clients
and THIS is exactly why I bend over backwards to use
only Japanese and Taiwanese drives and PSU’s and any
other component you can think of. I don’t want customers coming back and complaining I sold them crap when it fails.
BTW most of those low end brand name desk tops you buy
come with Chinese (PRC) PSU’s in them and they are
utter garbage.
You do realize the parts are all made in China, right? “Made in ___” refers to site of assembly, and sometimes not even that, just site of packaging.
There is a reputable PSU manufacture of
a certain brand name which starts with a C
(don’t want to get flagged for spam) who
makes it a point of advertising the capacitors
oil and otherwise and diodes etc. used in their PSU’s are the highest quality Japanese and Taiwanese and not PRC manufactured ones they can get.
Their products reliability would testify to
that.
I don’t know…. the Chinese PSU in my HP computer works pretty darn good, it’s been nearly 2 years now and it’s still going.
The problem with PSU’s is that a good one is expensive compared to the crap one. A good PSU with a good reputation for a gaming class PC is anywhere from 100 to 150 dollars.
Too expensive for most for something that they never see.
Yes but when PSU’s go they will most likely
take the MOBO,graphics card and maybe even
the hard drive with it.
That’s a lot of bucks on a gaming rig with
each running about $200 to $300. So in my
case I’ll pay the $100/150 plus you usually
get more voltage taps for multiple graphics
cards and SSd’s etc.
what about chocolate bars there taking a few millimeter of them every year and charge you the same price
If chinese can create fake eggs, they can do everything fake.
Lesson of the day, don’t buy chinese products.
Its so hard though when they make everything! I wouldn’t mind paying extra for stuff made elsewhere
the thing is, its too expensive to charge people more, however ironic that may seem.
Pretty much is what the videogame industry is doing as of late.
Lot’s of hype, false advertising, untold removal of features, denial of DEMO or even trailers.
60 dollars later, you get an incomplete, downgraded, buggy, piece of shit backwards game with less content than previeous/older titles.
lets not forget that the removed features are available as on-disc-DLC, making you pay for stuff you should have gotten already in the first place
In some cases, yes. However, a good number of games today are made well and well worth the money. I just wish that they would update the backlog of PS1 and PS2 games so that they can be played on modern non-Sony systems by allowing a sanctioned emulator.
honestly, sony would never sanction an emulator, plus it could kill the value of vintage games, which im not saying is a bad thing.
the only way they would sanction one is if they could put DRM on it and force users to DL from PSN, and then they take 100% of all game sales.
That you have to register online and you can only install it 5 times.
not to mention the DL and install of said online registration that makes your computer work harder. *cough*steam*cough*origin*
Don’t you understand? Along with your food product you’re getting premium packaged air! A current luxury in smog-filled eastern China!
It’s a service! Service!
Not to mention all the paint chips and heavy metals you’re not eating, assuming you had a full box of said food product..
And of course, less food product in package means smaller blast zone when this product inevitably explodes..
Brilliant. You made my day.
Reminds me of time i had a fudge brownie at Friendlies. The brownie little 2x2inch square covered by a mass of ice cream. If it weren’t good I would have raged harder…goobags
that “little” 2×2 inch square had enough calories to keep you alive for 2 days, not to mention the ice cream. and of course it was good, because americans would stop shoving them in their stupid fat faces if they weren’t completely delicious and carried a warning about increased risk of heart disease.
The Chinese are worse then Ferengi.
I thought the Ferengi WERE the Chinese.
That kind of sandwiches are common everywhere in the world I think. I’ve even seen quickfood restaurants that do the same thing with hamburgers.
Where do you live?
When you get something like that you’re supposed to take it back and file a complaint.
That what we do in the US.
If I got a sandwich like that I would be raising hell and demanding a replacement or my money back.
and you usually get both 😀 thank you, rules of restauranteering.
finally a nice design hah
when u eat make sure to put those from the center to the side, it will look better
Open up a bag of potato chips and you’re lucky if it’s even 1/3 full. The rest is all air. Or how about some companies making the boxes thinner? It’s still just as tall and wide, so if you see it from the front on the shelf in the store it looks to be the same size and is the same price for less product.
Bags of potato chips are filled with (slightly) pressured air because if you don’t do that, after transport you end up with potato powder.
Unless of course you manage to make really uniform chips that stack well, then you can use really compact packaging. And that’s the magic of Pringles, and why they’re popular in places with high transport costs.
Didn’t know that. Thanks for the info.
Sorry but what that is partially true, the bags are FAR larger then they need to be to protect the contents.
Go back even 20 years and the same size bag held more chips.
Oversized packaging is a well defined marketing tactic.
I get my cocaine hydrochloride powder in containers like these.
It sounds as if they have no more honor than a Sharaman.
How inspirational,
Just imagine, guys. If less is more, think about how much more “more” would be.
haha “less is more” reminds what i learned from art history, i guess i can consider this as art huh?
to business owners, this is what you would call, “music to their ears”
In the end they are hurting themselves because they cannot build up a brand.
Yeah, unfortunately for consumers, shyster businesses that do this put out a bunch of crap, sell it wholesale, change the name of their company, put out more crap, sell it wholesale, change the name of their company, put out more crap, etc…
wouldn’t it just be easier to sell under the name of a company with a good reputation?
China doesn’t build brands, they just use everyone else’s.
This has nothing to do with business regulation though, retard.
They learned from the best. Capitalism at work.
This is a problem of free markets, not capitalism.
Despite what your American Dream(TM) propaganda might tell you, the two concepts are not tied together.
well, they try to teach you that in school, but apparently no one here has a GED.
Capitalism, Ho!
Think its just the Chinese consumer hasn’t had time to get picky yet 🙂
Agreed. If I was living in China, I would demand to open the package before buying/paying to make sure I was getting what I should be getting.
If it turned out to be a scam item, I would immediately call the police.
In that case the store clerks can refuse to service you and demand you leave the property.
It’s not their fault you refuse to read the packaging.
And the police hauls your ass to jail for destruction of property?
Why build up a brand at all when you can just sell fried chicken as KTC or KVC.
Obama Fried Chicken FTW
haha I remember that one!
besides changing company brand/products they sometimes also manage to put the blame on the importers or other people. If you want to find out more about this topic I recommended you read this book http://www.amazon.com/Poorly-Made-China-Insiders-Production/dp/0470928077/ and you find out that this kind of thing is very common.
Yah I’d never buy any of those brands again.
You weren’t going to notice which brands you buy to begin with.
they don’t need one, they change company brand/products once the previous prduct r sold out
China in itself is a Brand. See all the stuffs in Wall mart or other stores all have “made in China” Brand. So, yeah ftw China
I can’t believe anyone would be stupid enough to genuinely make this comment.
yes, anon 21:42 your post sucked
Funny slanty eyes and their antics being ass pained all the time because everyone else turned their women into cum dumpster for the world.
lel look at all these butthurt downvoters
they downvote so they dont have to read lame remarks made by ignorant jackasses. i actually want the 30 seconds of my life back for typing this out.
“It’s almost as if it were packaged by Amazon!”
quite fuckin’ true
I feel I should point out that Amazon has standard box sizes, so it is only natural that if you order a golf club and book, you’ll get a BIG box and a lot of packing.
When it comes to small items like books and DVDs, the packing fits with what is being sent.
No kidding. Of course, when I bought a game used off Amazon from some dude in Japan & had it shipped State-side, the Japanese dude was nice enough to use a full, old manga (page by crumpled page) as cushioning.
Now…if I could just read it…
D: its nakai-san, from his home in rural japan, selling off his game collection to make up for his failure at mangaka, and using his old manuscripts as packaging material D: poor guy
They use those enormous boxes to stick you with the s/h
The stereo equipment they used as examples is not really a ‘fair comparison’, as the reason there’s so much space there is because that stuff is designed to be stacked on top of another piece of stereo equipment.
Thou seeing some schmuck get taken for 15K, when another product uses the same guts for a fraction of the cost does amuse me.
The stereo example is actually that a seemingly high-quality product turned out to just be a much cheaper product placed in the branded enclosure.
Having worked at TCI (known to most as RCA) I can tell you that this is prevalent, but not really an issue. For instance back in the day you had RCA DVD players and then their Proscan line of “master quality” DVD players that cost $30-$50 more. The interiors of both were actually completely identical, but the outside casing of the Proscan device used a gold coating on its connection contacts (and came with gold-coated cables). The insides were identical, just the outside casing was nicer.
This is actually an industry standard, and just comparing the guts shouldn’t really surprise anyone.
Who the hell would pay $15k for a dvd player in the first place? Am I missing something here?
the most expensive headphones ive seen were $4000, and they were just 2 tube amps with a headband.
People who spend hundreds of dollars on their gold-plated super-duper multimedia cabling, when the $3 brand does the same job.
Ever see those million dollar diamond covered & gold plated iPhones? Those idiots.
The same kind of person willing to spend $100 on two filler episodes.
An idiot with money that’s who.
You can’t get any more CHINA than this.
is the inside of the balls filled with exploding cement
That’s why they’re sold by weight, not volume. You’re not being charged for empty space. That’s caused by settling of the product after packaging.
Or paint-ball with chocolate coating.
paintballs = too expensive.
id say, pingpong balls, spray painted.
big trolls °_°
i expect nothing “less” from china.
I just saw a movie the other day where a woman sucked that type of balls into her nose, and put some others in her ears.
in case anyone is curious:
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0117715/
there are some pics there,
Your description makes me avoid that link.
that wont stop me
Chnks being chnks.
The next time I hear so dumb fuck republican say we need to deregulate business, I’ll point them to this page.
Then prepare for the mandatory “our businesses are not like that” speech. You can’t argue with politicians. They will bury you under a mountain of fallacies until you give up or die of old age, whichever comes first.
over-regulation drives up costs by running up the taxes that pay the wages of the regulators. This leads to more cheating in an effort to shore up shrinking profits. At some point it becomes cheaper to bribe the regulator. Most Americans are smart enough to realize that corn flakes and potato chips are sold by weight, not volume, and don’t pitch a fit when the bag is only half full, and they don’t need a regulator to tell them that.
Nice false dichotomy. Arguing against deregulation is not the same thing as arguing for over-regulation. All regulation drives up costs, but without sufficient regulation, you leave room for exploitative business practices.
You think the American public can deal with weak regulations? Then how do you explain the fact that most of their customer markets are de facto monopolies or cartels? How do you explain the low quality food they eat? How do you explain the overflow of illegal immigrants?
If the people are apathetic, then strong regulation is a necessary evil. The economy benefits more from healthy markets than from saving on bureaucratic expenses.
Under-regulation gets us China. I think I’d rather go with over rather than under.
True when I see stuff like this I’m very grateful of the regulations that exist in my country.
I think we need more regulations to stop over use of shady ingredients and dishonest mechanics.
The items in the post are clear examples of fraud. Nobody wants to ‘deregulate’ that, you libtard moron.
Deregulation turns fraud into “smart marketing package” when companies aren’t regulated then fraud is not longer a part of the vocabulary when its no longer considered illegal dumb shit.
Cool I wish they could build a large car with compact space like small seat, small dashboard. and small engine the insides to accomodate 15-20 passengers.XD
Sounds like the vans already used in backward third world countries. Only the passengers are all sitting on wooden benches.
you steer and stop with your feet.
Clown car! 😀
What for so you can make money smuggling in illegals?
I’m surprised, no Lays and other chips where the package is 90% air.
i guess they’re doing it for the good of the population since junk food r bad they give u less and charge u more(that’s how an optimist thinks in a situation like this) lol
You should see the packaging for really strong magnets. You get a box the size of two humans for a magnet that fits inside your palm.
Only, that’s security for you, because these kinds of magnets can go through the human body like it was butter ^^
could you imagine having all of the iron and nickel in your body being pulled to one point? painful… though im sure it doesnt work like that.
It’s 60% air roughly there’s a reason, crushed chips are bad. All the things on here are legitimate fails, and its nitrogen not air.
35% air still wont crush that chip, so that kind of argument is invalid
One word; pringles
The other major ingredients are corn flour, wheat starch, and rice flour.
Pringles= reconstituted shit containing only 42% potatoes.
That “sandwich”… is real?…
or it’s just a toy?…
Is That Even Edible?
I would be really pissed off if a sandwich I bought turn out to be like Taiwanese one.
Yah I would be demanding my money back and would show the asshole the sandwich and tell him WTF is this shit you’re obviously trying to screw people over.
This is why we have the better business bureau in the US to try and stop these kind of shenanigans.
I’ve gotten similar defective crap though nothing this bad but I did not just take it up the ass.
I filed a complaint and either got a new item or my money back.
But our shenanigans are happy and playful, their shenanigans are evil and cruel.
Those are the sandwichs sold in the convenience stores in Taiwan. The breakfast cafes there have way better sandwichs and for cheaper prices, too. So pretty much nobody buy those.
This was a big story in the local news a few years back, was a huge embarassment. Dunno if the convenience store chain changed it after the story or not.
the food packaging made me pretty upset.
sadly China’s not the first one to do that kind of cheating
lets just say the good thing is there will be smaller scale explosion for this
Nice inserting the word “explosion” there. Well play sir, well play.
lol @ taiwanese “sandwich”
but will it explode?
Almost. The empty space is for the c4 for when they ship it to the senkakus. Till then you will just have to east the blasting caps.
That packaging is shit!
wow just wow that is some very cheeky packaging they got going there
Well, this is what happens when there is too much people on Earth! This poor planet can’t hold anymore, and soon 5 billions people will need to die (watch: Prophets of Doom and know the true).
gas prices are pretty high
In China, the gas is watered down to save a few bucks
what an ignorant remark.
I deal with watered gas in the U.S. all the time.
Sure it’s illegal, but nobody enforces it until some politician gets his gas cut with tapwater.
@07:31-
Testified in court, four times. Only once did it result in the state taking action, and that was a small fine.
The compensation in the civil cases were more damaging than the fine.
Often, people who water gas do so under a LLC or corporation, so that with a little restructuring they are back in business selling watery gas and overpriced candy in a month or so.
You joking, Anon 00:28? I’ve seen numerous stations shut down when it’s found that they are selling counterfeit or watered-down gasoline.
You want to see watered down gas, go to Philippines.
I believe that isn’t too uncommon in the US, either.
Gasoline it’s self is not water soluble in water, but the other additive’s in gasoline is such as MTBE, is ultra soluble and ethanol and other chemical additives can dissolve a lot of water in them and still remain dissolved in “gas mix” and its is very true unless you buy connoisseur gasoline you have gas cut worse than the dirtiest heroin with gas and mtbe and all kinds of other “waste chemicals” and it will still burn just not as well leading to less fuel economy. you have to admit it’s a great con for the oil men pump a gallon cut a gallon say your pumping less and less gas, charge more and more due to s/d. drill here and there to get more cheaper gas and keep raising the price.
@05:17
I think I lost count of the time a chinese let their mouths run too far ahead for them to catch up when I met them in person…
05:33 It’s always funny to see the impotent ones trying to convince themselves they are not after running its mouth once and getting slapped down. Not that ch ! nks can tell the difference because they are too afraid. 🙂
it didnt pay off… chitsua… chitsua… chitsua…
05:30 haha funny chnk ain’t cha? I am sure you had good deal of experience with that shit sitting impotently in front of your computer trying to bitch after getting verbally slapped around once.
You were awfully quick to bitch right after I commented, so no comment on that. 🙂
5:21 Ooh look, it’s a-na-ly-zing. Remember to check back in every few minutes to rage – somebody might post something hurtful!
Have fun : )
the three sadisteers can shut up…. or so i have read somewhere.
05:15 Sounds like you alright. That ‘discipline’ must have paid off for you to bitch online through your impotent rage yes? “:)”
@05:07 “The only reason US is better is because they have more experience and is better then us by virtue of effort”.
Check yourself if you don’t think you’re bitching.
5:13 Thanks for confirming the butthurt and impotent rage : )
05:07 You? Think before you open your mouth.
Not sure who’s bitchin’ in the first place. Only reason shit like this isn’t as prevalent in the US is cause society’s in a stage where the whole business model’s been going on for enough decades for legislation, quality control and market saturation to settle in – pretty obvious.
Not water as it won’t mix with gas and your car would stop running soon after putting it in but instead Ethanol.
They’ll sometimes try and sell E10 or even E15 as strait gas which is illegal.
I believe chinese puss out and always bitch about US too.
This is all something to fool all.
The real plan is TO KILL AND SINK JAPAN!
GLORY TO GOD FOR IT!
nono the real plan is to make everyone to stupid to realize they became stupid from watching anime 😀
