Comment on Square Enix Back in the Red: “Expect Even More Remakes!” by SpideyPHL:

And Nippon Ichi is a well known Fortune 500 company of course. Or was it the other thing, a company barely anyone outside of some small niche (and a positively tiny one outside of Japan) has heard of.

What works for one company won’t work for another, and certainly a big company like SE can’t take the tactics of a dinky thing like NIS as a way to turn itself around. The same applies to just going “back to roots”–those games we loved so much were made 10-15 years ago, the market has changed significantly since then and games that have tried to imitate that formula have been selling less and less because there’s less demand.

I think what SE needs to do is focus more on making a few quality, big games with some more original IPs, and for real consoles rather than portables or mobile. Rather than try to recapture past magic, they need to adapt to today’s market, because it is leaving behind those too caught in the past.

  • Guilty Gear Xrd Sign: “In 3D & Using The Unreal Engine!?”:
The 3D looks very good, and completely unobtrusive. If I have a complaint, it’s that they kept the relatively low frame rate to the animation. While it does look more like a Guilty Gear that way, Street Fighter 3 and numerous SNK games show us that high rate of animation really improves the appearance. I doubt it’ll come in this installment, but maybe if a sequel comes along I hope they go that route.

  • GungHo Worth More Than Nintendo: “Social Gaming Won!”:
I’ve played PazuDora on a friend’s recommendation. it’s fairly fun for a puzzle game, but nothing to justify this kind of speculation. It gets old quick.

  • My Little Kuroneko Can’t Be This White…:
Eagerly awaiting the Kuroneko girlfriend bit…so it can be over and done with already. I like Kirino Ayase and Saori a lot better than her.

  • Tomodachi ga Sukunai “Live Action Movie Due”:
I agree with this. I do think this show is actually really funny, but the way the fanservice is kind of shoved in there in a really obvious but not very satisfying way (they almost never show anything) keeps me from recommending it to my pervert or non pervert friends. Maybe a live action would take out the badly done fanservice and leave the funniness and some better done fanservice. No guarantees though, live action adaptations tend not to be great.

  • Top 25 Most Hateable Anime Heroines:
Seems proof, along with every other poll, that maybe, just maybe, people on Sankaku comment threads hate Kirino a hell of a lot more than anyone else. Not only is she not there, but Manami is there for spoiler reasons that involve Kirino as well. Get over it, people are allowed to like tsundere.
