It doesn’t work for western stars. Plenty of old movies that have as a plot device that a star cannot date or reveal wive/husband so as not to upset the fans. There is a japanese tv drama/comedy that has Tsunku in it (man behind morning musume) where a male star has to keep his new wive a secret. It depends on what the star is selling. A talent or a fantasy. The western teen boy band fantasy where an average teen girl could have one of the band members as her boyfriend. Beatle mania anyone? …
