gashapon's not exactly terrible. That shit's about 400 yen a turn for a reason (I should know, I played with a couple myself). Given, these figures tend to cost about 20 times that amount, but still, it's immensely better than the cheap, plastic rings we have in the states.

it might be possible for a tail to be unconnected to the spine. Just try thinking of it as an extra limb, like an arm or leg, and it might not seem so farfetched.

I don't know if this is how it looks in the manga but that tail looks wrong.
A tail should be the continuation of the spine. It shouldn't be perpendicular to the spine.
It looks so bizarre.
