this is actally a really good series that i, for once, can proudly declare that i'm watching for the plot. i can still remember the surprise i got when i first found out how interesting it actally is. it's a shame for anyone who never actally got to the light novel or read the manga or even watch a few episodes and automatically view it as some mindless fanservice series. believe me or not, it's much better than any series out there that aims for moe and ecchi without any actual meaningful story to tell. unless if you're okay with watching only type B anime all day.

Dunno why I feel like I'm losing brain cells just reading some of the comments posted here. It's Sankaku, even the most plot driven anime will be bastardized here even if it had only 10 frames of bouncing boobies in 25 episodes.

Maoyuu is like taking a Macroeconomics and History class with a teacher with a Ph.D with the added bonus that she's female and voluptuous to boot.
People will dismiss it as superfluous.
Others will be baited by the boobs. The brainless ones will stay for the boobs, fall asleep midway or leave as soon as they are don't understand a word she says. And those with a bit of rationality will appreciate the anime for the plot.

If the character is so intelligent, then I think it's detrimental for her to have such large breasts as one of her main characteristics that are always associated with dumb bimbos. Her physical, attractive figure WILL overshadow whatever else she has as a character for a lot of people, being smart is only a bonus.

It's the creator's fault for not creating a character that is "sexier" at first glance in other ways than having large cleavage. She doesn't NEED those. A female character can act sexy with action and dialogue, not pendulum-swinging. Look at how much work the animators put in just breast jiggling; that's a FOCUS of her character, as you said, to bait idiots in.

The man-children just want their doujins already.

That's just a stereotype, though, and people would do well not to write off a character just because of their design, or even a show just because it's laden with fanservice.

Especially when Demon Queen appears designed to subvert the whole "sexy = bimbo" gig while still indulging in a few guilty pleasures.

Demon Lord breaks the big tits = bimbo mold because she's a shoutacon, she's been watching Hero since he was in diapers.

I think we should wait for Senran Kagura to air before we decide which is the "biggest" anime of the season. :P

1 episode still not enough to know if it good as Manga yet.

I like the manga. It's macroeconomics (that the accurate term?) in the guise of your ol' jRPG adventure. It's good read.

I would definitely buy the LN, if it were released in English.

    In audio-book format.

    And narrated by Gilbert Gottfried.

Why is the depiction of sex so prevalent in not only anime, but in so many other facets of society? It's mind boggling.

    Short answer: Sex Sells!!
Longer answer: Sex is a survival mechanism that allows genes to pass from one generation to the next. Biologically, psychologically, & socially it is one of the main things, if not the main thing, necessary for the continuation of most known forms of life. Therefore, we are driven in one way or another to obsess over it.

This just looks like any other generic "Look at me boy i got Boobies" anime to me..

big question would rather be does it have any kind of good story line that would carry it over the 12 ep mark without stretching it?

Yes. It's actually a take on Dragon Quest 3 or 9 (the hero and other "PCs" are very obviously based on the DQ3 or DQ9 generic characters) with the following hook:

"What if the Demon Lord was an Economics Major?"

Basically, the hero goes to kill the Demon Lord and the Demon Lord points out that both the Demon World and the Human World's economies are completely reliant on the war to sustain themselves. Ending the war will kill millions more than the war kills.

Her idea is to use things that -- as readers, we recognize as very commonplace sociological advancements such as crop rotation -- to break the human world's Medieval Stasis, making them less reliant on war to sustain themselves.

Now, having said that, this series has like 5 different manga adaptations -- I read somewhere that the manga teams were treating his 2ch posts like they're public domain, but I don't know if that's true.

    There are:

    1. The Standard Version
    2. The Economic Theory Heavy Version
    3. The Romance-Heavy Version
    4. The 4-Koma Parody Version (where the demon lord is a NEET)

Or somesuch. Based on the art style I *believe* they animated the version that was heavier on the romance between Hero and Demon Lord, but time will tell. All of them have the same plot and basic aspects, it just concentrates on others

Honestly, the guy that started it should be lucky he got anything at all. Since it was started by posts through 2ch & included additional contributors, the title falls under a creative commons license and the 2ch owners technically have rights to claim ownership, since the content was hosted on his servers.

This sounds so devious. I don't know about the demon world, but it doesn't take a Hjalmar Schacht to realize that with humans, a local economy may rely on war - because it then looks to wrest value from contributors outside of its scope - but when you say 'both', it's like founding an economy on mutual thievery. It'd simply work as trade, but with much more overhead. So that's not what keeps it running.

Then, unless there's some sort of Gibbsian grief seed involved, it looks like the world suffers from a problem of motivation (and education, they are ever close). Which stems from bad management more often than not. So the presented heuristic solution may in fact be tailored not to the specifics of the field of influence, but of the executive elements. And since I know economics majors can be very good at matter-of-factly and non-manipulative motivation, I figure they just appointed the wrong one as their demon lord.

I guess I would like it more if they focused more on the romance part.

I'm getting tired of seeing harem ends with no conclusions. And the economics part is just another upside to what I'm interested in. This is actually one of the only anime's I've felt like following in a while. But I guess that only applies to the interests of a corresponding individual.

Based on the art, it's just an adaptation of the art from the Novel. They're are not adapting this from the manga.

I am quite disappointed that they have decided to leave out one of the most important points of the conversation, that your regular DQ-type Yuusha(Hero) is nothing but an assassin sent to assassinate the opposing nation's king(the demon king).

There are actually multiple manga versions. so the artstyle is more based on ASAMI You version "Maoyuu Maou Yuusha".

The one that most people are reading and like is done by ISHIDA Akira "Maoyuu Maou Yuusha - Kono Watashi no Mono Tonare, Yuusha yo" "Kotowaru!" , which is kind of disappointing that they didn't went with this one.

well it's not like the light novel was the original version either. Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't that just adapted from the 2ch posts as well? Though, whether the artwork in said novel has any relation with the original author (artist personally approved by the author or something), then it might make more sense.

At any rate, Ishida's work seems to be the most critically acclaimed from what I've seen (and for good reason), so it's a shame that that version couldn't have been the one that was adapted based on that alone.

I just like how Ishida went about the character design and his art style a little more then Asmai.
