Back in the day I remember a Japanese Anime magazine called Animage that surprisingly had fewer pictures and more text then most. It always had a ranking poll at the front and for close to TWO decades the main female in Nausicaa was always number one.. It was mostly filled with detailed reports of the industry (probably still does)and It was a sorta given that Nausicaa was #1 till the late ’90s came in to destroy the old guard of Otakus.
+
And then it began: Nothing stayed a #1 for more than 2 months and the polls became as bad as any 2ch ones where memories went back at best 10 months~~~~Perhaps of the advent of “smart phones” with instant access to any answer, people forgot to remember anything across the world and simply became kinda.. Butt Fucking RETARDs on the buttons of choices~ Hell does anyone here remember any show from 2012?
…anyone?
This is fucking bullshit.
meh. I can understand the top choice, it is a great movie, but the rest seem very… well, they seem like they’ve been chosen simply because the series is popular at the moment. And by that I mean K-On shouldn’t be number 2
But beyond that one odd choice I can understand the rest of the choices, even if I don’t exactly agree with them.
no Gundam 00, BS ranking
POKEMON?!!! lmfao
k-ON second place…………….is Biglove not?
The Macross Frontier and Berserk movies blow anything on this list away.
Akira, Ghost in the Shell and Ninja Scroll are missing from this list ๐
Rurouni Kenshin: Tsuiokuhen
(Samurai X: Trust and Betrayal)
anyone agree?
Nothing new to report with this list. I thought the first Evangelion Rebuild movies were garbage, but I’m not surprised they are on this list. For the life of me though, I will never understand why Spirited Away ranks so highly.
I’m still waiting for Kara no Kyoukai
the 3th and 5th movie was awesome
this list is shit. period. fuck you all.
STRIKE WITCHES MOVIE DESERVES TO BE THE NUMBER 1!!!
Madoka movies are shit near of masterpieces like Akira, Ghost in the Shell and Miyazaki’s movies.
So many people being tsundere about K-on!
It’s a fact that 99% of people here watched K-on! and enjoyed it….
I REALLY don’t understand why everyone loves Ghibli movies.
Their works are always so unbearably slow and uninteresting…
where the hell is benizakura-hen
no barefoot gen nor grave of fireflies.
japan is still bitter about WWII.
lol as i was scrolling down the list, i was wondering where was pokemon….lol can’t believe there was one
One of the greats that i think get over looked are
the patlabor 1 and 2 movies.
i only visit these lists to read the comments. that’s where the real list of good anime is =3
Is that Tohsaka?
I don’t really have a issue with it the list seems fair for the Japanese.
Madoka movies don’t deserve to be in this list!
And Summer Wars is too high in this ranking.
I didn’t like Summer Wars that much.
This list isn’t too bad.
Also I have no respect for any of you. Too many faggots in here who are pretending to have read the huge Akira manga, yeah fucking right, faggots.
Also if you are someone who knows anything about film, which none of you do, GITS is generally considered satisfying technically, visually and aurally. Anyone who doesn’t know anything about film always complains about pace and length. Makes me fucking lol and rage at the same time.
Stop fucking complaining about lists. My favorites are absent too, the only thing I’m complaining about is faggots who are complaining.
I feel like nobody realizes that this picture is Toshaka Rin cosplaying Asuka.
Honestly I noticed it was Rin the second I saw it, then noticed the outfit and figured I was just seeing things (Rin is about my favorite character in anything, so sometimes I think it’s her when it’s another twintailed tsundere)
Where is Mujun Rasen?
Kon 2, castle in the sky 7……..only that is enough to say to this sucks.
Another day, another meaningless anime list from Japan.
umm… wow, which unrefined 13 year old dipshit made this list?
Somehow the evangelion rebuild films, otherwise known as the version of evangelion for people with short attention spans, made the top of the list.
Remove story, add action, BOOM, rebuild.
K-ON! Movie, WTF?!
Shark tank bursts in China. XD
i’m wish “Barefoot Gen” was on the wish. Not number one, but in the top ten.
NEVER FORGET!
B-but Vampire Hunter D….
2. K-ON! Movie
Stopped reading at there, K-ON! is the Twilight of anime
Default K-ON! hater.
check.
Twilight should not be compared to K-on, Ever. Twilight should belong to burnable trash, K-on, at the recyclable.. .XD
Nothing is worse than twilight.
HAH… Best comparison ever. Good one there, good one.
Crossroad in the Ancient Capital is pretty good, and Countdown to Heaven is probably one of the most elegant of the Conan movies. I guess Raven Chaser was good too. My favorites are none of these, though…
>Evangelion 2.0 and 1.0
>No End of Eva
FUCK. THIS.
The new movies absolute shit. It’s like Michael Baye watched the series, sucked the life out of it, put in more CG and pointless explosions.
At least this list is not predictable. Maybe the top 10 on a purely academic list ought to be all Ghibli films or Ghibli and a handful of other acclaimed anime films (i.e. PAPRIKA), but I find lists like that dead boring and would rather have a list topped with a few unorthodox, outrageous choices.
Neither of my top 2 anime films are on this list (even the full version), but they’re 1980s films not from Ghibli (URUSEI YATSURA THE MOVIE 2: BEAUTIFUL DREAMER and PROJECT A-KO). Personally I’m not going to complain about K-ON! and HARUHI SUZUMIYA being in the top 5; maybe they shouldn’t be ranked so high if I’m looking at it “objectively” (especially since they don’t exactly work as standalone films), but I’m a big fan of both series.
anyone else think tohsaka wears that plugsuit better than asuka?
WHERE THE FUCK IS GHOST IN THE SHELL.
Remove K-ON, replace it with Ghost in the Shell and the list might start looking a little more accurate.
Other good Movies.
Black Magic M-66
Trigun – Badlands Rumble
Highlander The Search for Vengeance
Princess Mononoke
Steamboy
The Sky Crawlers
But not having Ghost in the Shell in the list, and having fucking K-ON in 2nd place.. Is complete and utter bullshit.
No cowboy bebop love?
I really want to know who they question for this, cause it’s a list of mostly garbage.
CB movie is average, at best.
Totoro is too underrated.
Summer Wars was great, but as much as I like ite, I feel it’s ranked too high.
If we’ll just criticise that.
I honestly suspect half the reason SUMMER WARS is ranked so high is because of Kazuma’s popularity amongst shotakon. ๐
Needs Macross
these people MUST be smoking something to think that the Strike Witches movie was actually good.
You MUST be smoking for think that Strike Witches Movie is bad.
no Redline? :<
still confuse, how come EVA still linger. it have been there since i was middle school. and it plot, gore, faservice are sick enough. anime was END already with conclusion from The END of EVA right?
the one i respect is summer wars. it has been long time since good for everyone age anime shown up.
else are ordinary high school moe, extremely good anime studio, and good memories of RETARD FANSBOY old otaku. (look at 15 below, it all came from my high school time)
the one who make new generation of otaku that must take that bad stereotype
Where the hell is 5 Centimeters Per Second? On that matter, where the hell is any of Makoto Shinkai’s works?
Another list just to put k-on in it.
Most of those movies weren’t even released theatrically outside Japan.
Nothing Japanese otaku think has any validity whatsoever.
Oh please tell us your list of ultimate truth . -.-
Pig….
Somehow I don’t believe the K-On movie to be _that_ good. I could be wrong, though.
its funny watching you all cry because of the Japanese opinions on what they find the best its like none of you know what an opinion is anymore lol.
Good calls by the list;
The Girl Who Leapt Through Time
Spirited Away
Princess Mononoke
Cardcaptor Sakura 2: The Sealed Card
Okay calls by the list, but not exactly what I would have chosen personally;
Inuyasha: Castle Beyond the Looking Glass
Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind
Castle in the Sky
Summer Wars
My Neighbor Totoro
Movies that are just really weird calls by the list that I don’t fully understand;
Pokemon the First Movie (and to be fair, I really enjoyed this movie, but… what the frak, man? Really?)
Movies that absolutely should have been on the list, but weren’t;
5 Centimeters per Second
Grave of the Fireflies
Metropolis
Metropolis is a big fail movie.
I don’t get half the ‘Where’s Akira?’ comments, sure the movie was good but the books are better, saying a movie is godlike for what you just watched is stupid, in this case not only did they cut more than three quarters of the plot, you watch the movie and ask yourself what was the point of it all? did I just watch a movie where they do experiments on some guy and he becomes godlike? Yes, Did the movie have any depth to it? Nope.
I sincerely think Spirited away should be in the list and more Ghibli stuff along with it and they should be ranked higher, The End of Evangelion should too and before anyone says the new Eva movies are just to get some cash in you should re-watch the original series with the movie and ask yourself if it really ended there and then watch the new movies and realize that those are the continuation of the series.
Also, sure Haruhi and K-on and Strike Witches are in it, they shouldn’t be but heck tons of stuff should be here that isn’t.
The girl on the picture more looks like Rin from fate/sn, than Asuka. Btw where is fate/ubw? It wasn’t that good, but I think I should be on a 25 list
this movies shouldn’t be here:
K-ON! Movie
The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya
Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha THE MOVIE 1st
Detective Conan: Crossroad in the Ancient Capital
Strike Witches: The Movie
Puella Magi Madoka Magica the Movie Part I: Beginnings / Part II: Eternal
InuYasha the Movie: The Castle Beyond the Looking Glass One Piece: Strong World
Detective Conan: Countdown to Heaven
Detective Conan: The Raven Chaser
Pokemon: The First Movie: Mewtwo Strikes Back (i’m a pokemon fan, but it should’n be here)
Fullmetal Alchemist: Conqueror of Shamballa
You missed Summer Wars, and this is the only one I know apart from The Disappearance – and I prefer the latter any day of the week. I was disappointed with how the premise of SW was being implemented from almost just after the very good start. Something far more serious and convincing was in order. Plus, most of the characters, main girl excluded, give off a very repulsive aura, almost like it was some western production.
Have you even watched half the movies you’ve listed? I highly doubt you have, considering some of those are really good. Don’t judge them based on the series. Though I do agree that the Madoka movies shouldn’t be there.
The only thing I agree with is the Madoka movies. They’re just a shafted rehash of the tv series.
Haruhi no Shoushitsu was a great movie, though.
Yes, the movie was good. I hate the anime, but I quite enjoyed the movie. If only the anime could have that much plot…
Business as usual, top 5 are pure hype…
How could the shitty recaps of the shitty Madoka anime be higher than decent movies like The Sealed Card?
Where is 5 Centimeters per Second?
At the moment is arriving to seattle but in two weeks it will be in vancouber or portland.
summer wars in 3rd, not bad, amazing movie overall )
haruhi’s, on my top 3 of this years entire movies.
All the way up through 49 in the list, no Escaflowne and none of the Macross movies (mostly the 1st one, but compared to what’s on the list the Frontier ones are plenty good enough).
This ist a bullshit ranking. A Movie should be a stand alone Story, and not something based on a series! That just makes it an OVA !
unlimited blade works though :/
ๆฉๅๆฆๅฃซใฌใณใใ ๏ผ้่ฅฒใฎใทใฃใขใ
ใ็กใ
> Wolf Children Ame and Yuki
Can’t be. New name on the list.
Several of the Inyusha movies were wonderful blends of music and action.
I didn’t like very much Summer wars (a half delusion). More or less a good list but i don’t see Jin-Roh, Grave of the Fireflies, Cowboy Bebop: Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door or Kara no Kyoukai movies.
The Kara no Kyoukai series is an omnipresent ultimate masterpiece, that’s why it’s not on the list.
Detective Conan vs Lupin the III where?
That movie is friggin amazing.
So its Ghibli studio anime for kids so where’s Cat return?
This top 25 is a mix between relly good movies and moeblob shitty movies.
No, I won’t say what movie belongs to what group. You have to see it by yourself.
Summer Wars and The Girl Who Leapt Through Time are soooooo overrated. Really boring movies IMO. I don’t get why they’re always so highly praised…
>Not having Ghost in the Shell on it
>Not having Akira on it
>Not having Angels Egg on it
>Not having any Satoshi Kon movie on it
Etc, etc… Apart from the Ghibli movies, this list is just shit. No wonder anime and manga mostly only get viewed as childish art for retards…
Not Unlimited Blade Works !!
Yah the story was new for that movie and it kept pace and action to keep it from being boring.
Unlimited Blade Works > Fate/Zero
K-ON! Movie is the 2nd. This list is totally invalid.
You don`t play any musical instrument, or sing?
NOT COWBOY BEBOP
The movie isn’t that good.
Americans always overrating CB because its more focused in american culture.
Europe suck! See what I did there?
The series wasn’t that popular in japan.
Cowboy Bebop?anime fine but the movie’s a tad bit shit
AKA “If I don’t like it, then it’s invalid.”
AKA “Even if they said the truth about a overrated anime series, I prefer to live in delusion in my bubble full of Humbug”
You live in delusion that your opinion matters or that you are something more than others.
But truth is you are low form of human kind AKA arrogant trash.
You seem to be confused. The list said “best” not “worst” movies. Though I don’t understand why you would rank Koukaku Kidoutai as worst..
Akira as a movie is overrated. The manga is landmark but the movie is a mess that really only gets its status because of the effect it had on Western audiences.
Though truth be told K-ON placing at immediately invalidates this list for me. K-ON is a plague and the sooner it is forgotten the better off we are.
Clearly you have not experienced how it is to be playing in the band, no matter if you are girl or boy.
Having done it helps to understand charms of K-on! much better.
90% of the people who watched K-On! cares more about Mio’s panties then the music.
expert talking here ^
akira movie is awesome .
Exactly the same movies I was expecting to find, and the ones absent, specially Ghost in the Shell.
K-On begin as #2 while is utterly SHIT!
I agree man and LoL at the brainwashed moe lovers that down-voted your comment. Is not just K-On who should die but the entire moe fad too. Anime is not even that interesting anymore unless you’re a pervert and a pedophile….
So sad there wasn’t a Fist of the north star movie.
There’s still hope we’ll get more anime like Dennou Coil and Kaiji. Just because they don’t talk about it still doesn’t mean they aren’t good.
more or less
you mean it’s like I hate it but I’m still here?
what I always wonder is why do we still follow these anime? it’s including me and you. perhaps because we got brainwashed as well? and you can’t say no because at least you have seen this Top 25 Best thing
K-ON movie soooo BAD. Probably da “fanboy” made it.
I’d also add “Grave of the Fireflies”.
Amen, brother.
And don’t forget “Perfect Blue”! I know Kon needs his love (this thread is in reply to that), so I picked what I felt was the best one.
i think that “Millennium Actress” is a better film than “Prefect Blue”. But what do i know, I love “K-ON!” and would have made “Ah, My Goddess” the number one anime film.
Oh yea, definitely! Really sad story but I loved that movie. In fact, I think it may be even the best movie Studio Ghibli ever worked on.
>Makoto Shinkai not in the top 25
2deep4Japan
Just go die fucking faggot, it’s a shame that people from /a/ give this site views, cancerfags
Wow the FMA movie is there! I’m pleasantly surprised.
Ghost in the Shell 1 and Akira are great and all, but they are pretty damn dated now.
Try watching Akira again. It isn’t dated in the slightest, in fact it’s still the best looking anime movie ever made.
Doesnยดt mean that they canยดt be as good as any new production. Back in the days anime where much better anyway.
I wasn’t talking about animation or character design just the story progression, directing, etc.
In terms of animation those 2 movies are about as good as it will ever get.
And Castle In The Sky is not? Pssh.
Gibli nerds that’s what they all are.
Ghost is the Shell is the most boring anime movie I’ve ever seen.
Lists like this, you know, are the reason why anime not get called anime anymore. Nowadays, even many otakus themselves, just call it “Animuu”.
To me, this reminds me of a black people who like to call themselves “ni**er”. Try to figure it out yourself why.
How does that make you feel?
Yeah like Akira it feels more like an extension/tribute to the manga. The manga are 10x more enjoyable to read and the movies hardly capture a fraction of the original story.
Besides that Ghost in the Shell is really not a movie that everyone can enjoy.
I don’t know. GITS is a great movie. But the passing is REALLY slow. Not to mention the soundtrack they have for it (though sounds great) adds to the slow passing of the movie.
Again its a great film but the slow pass can really bore people.
Of course itยดs not a movie everyone can enjoy, but a person who rather likes to watch GITS definitely looks more mature and sophisticated, than a person who likes to watch all this moe shit, “because itยดs so desu XD hihi”.
“a person who rather likes to watch GITS definitely looks more moronic and unable to understand what a fucking story is.”
FIFY.
GITS was visually incredible, but that’s all there is to it in my opinion. I had high expectations when watching it due to everything we hear, but sadly it definitely wasn’t for me.
Don’t see Princess Mononoke, Totoro should be higher and i agree with Kara no Kyoukai (funny cause i’m in the middle of watching just started Ep. 6 i love it
Blood C The Last Dark?
I can’t name “movie” most of these titles. Long OVAs, short series, but not movies. Completed, solid as rock, clean and “all included” works i’ve seen only from Ghibli Studio. Wanna watch “The Wolf Children Ame and Yuki”.
0. Kara no Kyoukai – The Garden of Sinners
5,5. Ghost in the Shell 2 – Innocence
6,5. The Sky Crawlers
Anything EVA no doubt is expected of very high quality
Surprised TTGL: Lagann Hen wasnt included though
Akira FUKEN WHERE?
TTGL is too old to be remembered by the Japanese.
I mean, they forgot Kon existed at all, based on this ranking.
To be fair, a lot of them probably didn’t know Satoshi Kon existed in the first place. His stuff may have been acclaimed by critics worldwide, but it was never really that popular within Japan.
And soon, Evangelion 3.0 will be 1st on the list <3
I enjoyed eva 3.0, but it has been borderline good and bad for many of the fans in Japan. If you ask me, I think they’re just upset that the movie focused so much more on Kaworu and Shinji than any of the female leads.
Evangelion 3.0 is a real trash!Gainax people have forgotten how to make good stuff,so they recycle old stories and characters in an orrible way and the result is Nadiangelion:with Neo Tokyo 3 that has transformed in a distorted version of Neo-Natilus and Misato a cross-dressing of Capt Nemo…
Fans are angry because of the timeskip (though I don’t understand why that bothers them so much) and because Kaworu died horribly due to Shinji being an idiot. Though fans don’t hate Shinji, he got hit the worst by every character on the movie and Kaworu’s death left him in a worse mental condition than in the anime.
But it’s true, there is a lot of people angry because Rei II wasn’t in the movie and because Asuka and Mari had little to no screentime. Do these people only go to the theaters to see their waifu and not because of the plot?
Man, fistfuck Evangelion. It’s old, boring news anyway. It wasn’t a good movie or series to begin with and yet people still think it is? Morons.
Fans are mostly upset because of the Timeskip and because Kaworu had to die again.
Then there are waifufags ranking the movie 1 star because no Rei in the movie and because Asuka and Mari barely appeared.
Hell no.
U MAD BRO? U MAD? kthxbai. DAMN IT. ALL MY BASE BELONG TO U.
not bad.
What about Gosth in the Shell??
Wow, Strike Witches above My Neighbor Totoro? 2ch, ya dun goofed.
You clearly didn’t watch the Strike Witches Movie. Totoro is good, but wasn’t epic.
Strike Witches Movie is one of the best movies ever.
You all should stop with your crying… its just sad.
Anyway, a few things are missing but its a okay list.
#1 Akira
Nothing matters after that…
Akira is a mess though. Shiny animations… nothing else.
ttgl movie 2 all the lights in the sky are stars?
Piece of art!
Evangelion 2.0, which is a great movie, should still be switched with The End of Evangelion.
One of the most incredible movies I’ve seen in my life.
I’ve only seen 4 movies out of all of them.. Nanoha, Haruhi, Pokemon and Sakura…
From up poppy hill was a good movie Ghibli has made a while. Mononoke hime and Castle in the Sky is rightfully in that list although Porco ROsso and Grave of the Fireflies should also be there even if it makes you feel bad. Rather than Akira, Iยดd put Steamboy in there because book version of Akira is way better. Tales of Vesperia movie was quite good but those “introductionary” ones sometimes lacks in some areas or sohuld have some knowledge in their background.
My number one would be End of Evangelion.
K-On movie #2??? L O L, L M F A O, R O F L…Two Evangelion movies on the top 5… They were good, not great.
EPIC FAIL LIST!!!
Kiddie Movies ,Garbage and the Eva Cash Ins are tops?
Were none of the mind melting stuff from the early 90s-late 80s was allowed on this list?
I’m honestly confused since Kiki’s Delivery Service ranked in.
Personally, I dislike the newer Eva Movies because in my opinion. All things should end eventually. In comparison to everything else on the list, you don’t see them re-releasing Kiki’s Delivery Service under a new title to rake in more money.
A list with pokemon and k-on cannot be valid…
Yeah, Evangelion at the top, the others I don’t care…
Evangelion: 2.0 is all I needed to see…
Faith in humanity restored!
What a truly awful list. The K-On movie was utter dross, as are much of the new films on that list.
The works of Miyazaki, Mamoru Oshii, and Satoshi Kon are far ahead of most of these entries.
Totally agree. Not a single one of Kon’s works on the list. Bullshit list!
Y’know what? Akira is so dated and has been out done on so many levels. Covered wagons were awesome, but better things have come along. Time to wake up and take your meds, old timer. Oh, and… That goes for Ghost in the Shell too.
no Byousoku 5centimeter….??
http://i1.kym-cdn.com/photos/images/newsfeed/000/082/456/Okay.png
Byousoku movies are for forever alone otakus.
No. Too boring.
So it’s dumplings before flowers again, as with the hint the title gives you, huh?
The movie still feels like a step in the right direction. And you can watch it in installments.
