The annual Oricon Blu-ray ranking for 2012 has revealed yet another year in which Japan’s Blu-ray sales have been completely dominated by anime – in this case with Gundam UC the best selling BD in Japan of the entire year, matched only by Fate/Zero (which sold fewer but made more money), with K-ON! coming a mere 4th in discs sold but still handily topping the movie BD charts.
Oricon’s sales data include both anime and non-anime, yet somehow end up being dominated in general categories by anime:
Best overall Blu-ray by discs sold:
Mobile Suit Gundam UC BD 5 (124,000)
Best selling BD by total revenue:
Fate/Zero BD Box 1
Best movie Blu-ray by discs sold:
K-ON! The Movie (108,000)

all members welcome
Are those numbers normal?
Seem kind of low… but then again. Considering Japanese BD prices. Maybe not.
BUT YES FUCK YEAH UC GUNDAM
i enjoyed all of them very much i watched the gundam UC a dozen times already
these are the only tops i can actually agree with good job!
Which manga or book was the most sold of 2012?
just wait and the record will be evangelion
pls check the information……
check the eva and bakemonogatari….
go K-ON!
The K-ON movie was really good. I clapped at the end of that movie. It was very well done.
Agreed. Great stuff! Very cute, too.
I still hope for a season 3.

Whatever, fanboi.
lolz at everybody trying to be cool and classy by blindly hating anything with any sign of moe 😀
learn that there are many other anime offering much higher dose of pure moeness
and also learn that those anime don’t sell nearly as much
this hate-moe-at-all-cost trend is getting reeaaally old. it is not cool anymore lol. move on! move on!
And moe haters *don’t* go out of their way to be dicks? Are you on the same internet I am?
Preach it, bro!
It’s not the moe that we hate, but the fanbase. Moe shows, we can just avoid watching. Fantards go out of their way to get in your face.
Not to imply that everyone who watches moe is an annoying prick, but you have to admit the genre attracts a disproportionate number of those.
Get out, Squall fanboy! Go suck seifer’s dick!
Yay K-ON! Movie! Well deserved. ^_^
Okay, what makes a person go and downvote every comment that says something positive about K-ON? Are haters’ lives really that empty?
Anon is right! Unfortunately, this is Sankaku. :p
You’re on Sankaku Complex.
Must be.
I mean, sure, K-On isn’t “serious” like Eva or whatever other anime all the K-On haters consider superior, but you can’t deny the facts.
You can’t deny that K-On has appealing characters. You can’t deny that K-On has great animation. You can’t deny that K-On is overall well directed and well written. To say that K-On sucks is like saying “I’m an ignorant faggot”, pretty much, because you choose to ignore all its qualities.
I do agree that K-On did overstay its welcome on most toplists, but K-On Movie is still ways better than most other full-lenght anime stuff released to date. Screw the haters, I say.
SIEG ZEON
Seconded! GUNDAM FTW.
1st on the list Gundam – who cares
Last place on the list – K-On, main article’s picture.
As expected of Sankaku Complex!
Why am I not surpised?
wuhu Saber \o/
Fate/Zero, fuck yeah.
Just hope it doesn’t set a precedent where every anime distributor thinks that mega-steep prices is the secret to making money off anime…
I expected as much from Fate/Zero. As the boxes are gorgeous (by Takashi Takeuchi, no less), bundled with the soundtrack and extra Material booklets, the steep price tag is worth it.
I have yet to see what the BR box has in it but Saber is worth it.
NO ECCHI SHIT AT THE TOP! LOSERS!
So these are the “Big 3” of Japan now….
They’re really not. In no way they can match the ongoing popularity of any of the original “Big Three”.
At least for about 3-4 months, until the new “new” (redundance intended) animes become cool on their place, as usual.
