A top executive with Japan Rail has killed himself after being arrested for groping a schoolgirl, which he denied even in his suicide note.

The 56-year-old branch manager of JR’s Hanwa Line was accused of touching the nether regions of a 17-year-old schoolgirl through her clothes whilst on a train, and was arrested and charged under Osaka prefectural anti-groping laws.

He protested his innocence despite the girl’s accusation, saying “I may have brushed her arm but I have no recollection of groping her.”

Police attempted to prolong his detention whilst they “investigated” further, but courts decided it was safe to release him despite his insolent protestations of innocence, and also denied a police appeal against this reckless decision.

Shortly after his release he went missing, only to be discovered dead in an Osaka public toilet, having apparently hanged himself. He left a note proclaiming “I am not a chikan.”

Online there are some doubts about the case:

“You can’t help but think that a world where the mere suspicion you are a dirty chikan is enough to force you to suicide is insane.”

“Don’t kill yourself if the accusation is false!”

“If it was just a false accusation, you wouldn’t normally kill yourself over it. He was probably guilty.”

“No, it was a false accusation so he killed himself as there was no way to clear his name?”

“He wouldn’t have killed himself if he were actually doing it and got caught.”

“”Even if you are a chikan, it is not worth killing yourself over.”

“Haven’t you people been falsely accused of something? If nobody will believe you are innocent you might well decide to kill yourself.”

“Why don’t the mass media go an quiz chikan victims on how they feel about this for once?”

“He could have recovered from the charges.”

“It was over for him, I doubt he would have been able to recover from this. He could have lived on peacefully in seclusion I suppose.”

“There is no way he could have recovered and started over – he was a career executive in a huge company, come on.”

“Why do you guys only ever assume chikan are innocent and condemn everyone else?”

“Why does this country assume all those accused of this are guilty and that they deserve to die? It’s madness.”

“JR will soon need to consider men-only carriages!”

“Cameras and separate carriages are needed.”

“What were the courts thinking to allow them to release this man!”

“What was this girl doing out of the women only carriage.”

“If it was a false charge he should have worked to fix the rail system so it stops producing all these cases.”

“Right. The real problem here is the rail system which keeps cramming together passengers and so producing both these chikan and all the false accusations. If you can arrest chikan, JR should also be held accountable for creating this environment.”

Doesn't really matter if he did or didn't do it. Once the media gets hold of it his reputation and standing in the community are destroyed. Even if proven innocent later no one will care.
It's a shame men have to be driven to self destruction over something so trivial as grabbing someones ass.

The worst part of it is that pricks or "swag" gives some men the right to in a sense here in the USA. Some women even love it. To me, it's not even right let alone "gentlemanly" to even look at a woman that insistingly. Men should always be a Gentlemen. Hold doors open and shit like that. True we can act like monsters or brutes, but only when a lady isn't present ya know?

Speaking from a "nerd," Women should be feared tbh...some of them are fucking monsters.

Why should we? I'm kind of baffled why men are still shoehorned into an very old and outdated role model.
We still have to take immense pains upon us to give people benefits who simply don't deserve them.

Why should we have to prostrate ourselves to adhere to old ideals and rules when the other side doesn't have to adher to their part anymore?

Do you really think any girl will thank you for acting like that? No! Most of the time they'll either think that you are a creep or simply want to get into their panties.
Of course they take it anyway since it benefits them, but don't expect them to respect you or act in a "lady like" manner.

There used to be two sides to this, one is gone, why trying to keep the other alive when it only detrimential to you?

It's still the same old routine for men that it was a hundred years ago. The "perfect gentleman" of yesteryear, the "sexy jerkass", and the powerful and wealthy elite are still the three roles a man must play to be "sexually liberated."

Not many men can pull that off. The rest of them are still stuck with having to be patient and lucky. Some of them can't cope with it. And now their outlets (some criminal) are being taken away from them (often a good thing, too). Worse, even the archetypes are seeing those outlets taken away.

So while I wouldn't say "take pity on men" or "women have it better", I will say that you have to view this as a traditional social pressure on men that's at least as powerful as the equivalent ones on women that make them wear makeup and short skirts. It's part and parcel of living in a time when these roles are being redefined, and many people are being left behind as a result.

I hate to admit it but I agree, men are not the only ones that should be pushed into being gentlemen. If women don't want to act as proper as they should and be ladylike, why should a man have to act as a gentleman?
I prefer to act as ladylike as I can to everyone, not saying that I am a pompous prissy girl or anything but I always follow "Treat others how you wish to be treated". It's really not that hard of a saying to follow as people try and make it sound. @.@

If women want to act like idiotic bimbos then men should have the right to act like jackasses.

    That's how I see it.

JR is a private company since 1987. It does have the image of a public railway, but it's not actually one.

Come to think of it, I rode the Hanwa-Line almost every day when I lived in Japan. I wonder where their branch office is at.

Men-only carriages are the only way to go, so guys can at least relax and not fear to have a career ending accusation pop out of nowhere and destroy their lives.

And make no mistake, an accusation like that in Japan can pretty much destroy a japanese guy.

Btw, I was using for over 2 years a very crowded JR Line that brought me to the Shinjuku hub and it was so crowded that I accidentally came in contact with many people and I am quite sure the only thing that saved me from being accused of being a chikan was that I am not japanese.

Do away with the intense interrogations for what are minor crimes.
Next much tougher standard for joining the police force so you have police who know the difference between a serious claim and someone crying wolf.
