Nothing is subtle about Final Fantasy XIII. Everything about it screams, “LOOK AT ME AND THE SPECTACLE THAT I AM”. The level design is not subtle, “Go Straight! LOOK AT HOW GRAND I AM!”; the combat is not subtle, “Stagger enemy, launch, kill it before it comes down.”; the characters are not subtle either as they are all blatant, and obvious, cliches except for Fang. Nothing was subtle about it.
