Canon? That’s debatable. But it is by the original author so it’s definitely not fan-made. Well, unless the author is fan as well…but I digress.

If the published story doesn’t include details, is it canon if the author states them personally? I think so. For example *Evangelion spolier alert*, nobody really knows why Shinji strangled Asuka. If the author came out and said “it was to see if she was really there”, then that qualifies as part of the canon material in my book. Or if he said “she was pregnant with his baby”, then I know the two of them hooked up even though it was never stated in the original story. Others would argue that only the published material counts as canon.
