My impression always was that it would be something in between Chuu2's portrayal (children living with grandparents) and the typical western scenario (mother fully taking care of children herself). Like, letting them live with their grandparents while working in the city to provide some financial support, with frequent visits by both children and mother. As opposed to disappearing and completely ignoring the children's existence as in the case of Chuu2.

By all means, correct me if I'm wrong, but provide some credibility.
