Communist countries have always tried to impress everyone with huge armies and nuclear weapons, but they never seem to realize that, if they do everything else like a third world nation, that’s all they’ll ever really be. Providing a safe environment for their people and raising their standard of living would be far more impressive than a parade of tanks and marching men.

There are always good and bad people in each population. It’s just that the bad stick out more than the good. There are good things of China, but there won’t be (much) coverage on them, rather pretty much bad news only. @Anon 17:06 it’s true that those related to the government are corrupt/evil/bad, but there are others in China (and of course everywhere else) who are imho, seriously evil. First thing i can think of for China would be that truck running over a child twice accident.
