Not many good things one can say about the Japanese school system except you should consider yourself fortunate it’s not in your country.
But really there is something very wrong here.
Japan has not produced many Burt Rutan, Bill Gates,Thomas Edison, or Elon Musk types but considering it’s economy it should have.
Why doesn’t Japan have stories of garage startups like Apple making it big and beating the establishment or of startups who pushed the envelope and bucked the trends like Spacex?
I think it’s because if you don’t fit in they make you conform the only outlet for such people in Japan seems to be the video game and Anime industries.

To quote uncle Buck though I’m changing the age in the quote. But six or twelve it’s the same BS for kids in Japan. “I don’t think I want to know a 12 year-old who isn’t a dreamer, or a sillyheart. And I sure don’t want to know one who takes their student career seriously.”

The only pressure I had when I was 12 was I would get a reward if I got good grades. If I got a bad grade no reward and they might withhold my allowance except for lunch money. No money for toys, candy etc.

It’s a shit economy and the rise of HR doesn’t help things at all.

I just choose Yaris because it’s a cheap no frills car like a Ford Fiesta,Honda Fit or Chevy Cobalt. It’s nothing fancy but it gets the job done and while getting 35+mpg.

Japan needs to encourage more startups and small businesses. Sometimes that’s what it takes to create new markets and break stagnation. That’s one big thing I noticed different between the US and Japan. In the US new companies are created all the time but in Japan it’s usually established companies that do everything. I think this is why Japan largely missed out on cashing in on the PC revolution and later the Internet revolution and now is missing out on commercial space flight.

In the US more and more companies are avoiding them as they attract lawsuits when management thinks it can be a source of free labor. Students should refuse any internship that dose not pay anything.

Unions can become self serving but usually it’s more bad management’s fault then the Unions when a factory closes. A 40 hour work week ,medical benefits, and at least two weeks vacation is not an unreasonable request and should be a right.
