The many fans of much criticised yet strangely popular sexy/sexist RPG series Hyper Dimension Neptunia are rejoicing at the news that the title is to receive an anime adaptation.
Details are as yet completely lacking, but as with seemingly everything about the franchise the response has been polarised between those overjoyed at the prospect of cute and sexy console girls and those expecting a “rubbish RPG to yield a rubbish anime.”

Seriously, Neptunia is like the shining example of bad writing. The humor is shit, the characters are shit (Neptune aside) and the setup, as well as the continuity in story arcs are all terrible.
Not to mention the gameplay is horrid, the visuals rancid, and ugh, they're in overall bad games.

Dammit. I own them and have yet to play them, but I must admit... I really wish the Atelier Rorona/Totori/Meruru series got an anime first. My friends who enjoy JRPGs as much as I do even find all the Compile Heart games to be very difficult to enjoy (beyond Cross Edge, which I did play and enjoy).
It's made me nervous to play them. But Gust on the other hand improves markedly each game in terms of their graphics and presentation, which is impressive considering their general newness to 3D and the speed at which they work.
The recent Atelier trilogy managed to be adorable while containing more depth than I expected.
@HouseLife: You don't have to worry about the Neptunia series getting worse. The 2nd game greatly improved everything the 1st game had problems with. As for the 3rd game, It comes out tomorrow so I haven't played it yet, but it seems to be the best one yet.
I could barely stand playing through Rorona lol...
It was exactly what I needed at the time I guess. It managed to build a very fun little world and I really enjoyed the characters. Rorona's presence in Totori was nice, although I didn't quite feel as nice playing through Totori as I did through Rorona, but only because their chosen characters weren't quite as integrated as I wish they were. Rorona made them all somehow important, Totori was a lot more plot-centric toward Totori's general goal. Meruru is hailed pretty well so I am interested to move on, but I'm stopping over into Ar Tonelico Qoga first.
If Neptunia has issues that are rightfully corrected, then I am glad to hear it. I really just want characters I can enjoy the presence of with a plot that guides them well.
I hope it's made by AIC. They are best at fanservice adaptations with such style. See their Campanella anime for example.
Having played the games in both English and Japanese, I really hope they do a dub, and if they do, that they at least keep Compa's English voice actress. She was a keeper.
