My now gf and I really haven't encountered that problem well at least not within earshot I guess its because of my size and stature 5'10 185 lbs(which is mostly muscle not a broad build but mainly athletic build) I intimidate them and as for when she is walking to my place the neighbors actually sing my praises saying I'm a respectable and caring man who helps at the drop of a hat and my Japanese is better then most foreigners (Seriously I am trying not to brag just pointing out facts that's it). And as for foreigners getting the left overs that no one wants is down right wrong on the rating scale 1-10 I give my girlfriend a 8.5- to a solid 9 and that's because I have bizarre high standards with women. I can't say to much about the women who hang around military bases (so there might be some truth to an extent)
