Yeah, I'm watching it now and it's going downhill already. It's not bad just yet, far better than ecchi shows like Familiar of Zero and Astarotte's Toy, but the first four episodes were clearly better than 5-10. Consistency isn't a quality of modern anime. :(

At least neither of them really need sequels. Maybe with luck those will be two shows that stand the test of time and end up being more popular later. (My non-otakue roommate likes Jellyfish Princess which is a good sign, although her comparing it to the House Bunny is kinda weird.)

The first two episodes made me angry at the stupidity, so I quit, but maybe I'll finish it to see the ending. I'm not expecting much, though. Anime today basically emphasizes:

1) Perversion (boobs, lolis, furries, etc...)
2) Emo (crybaby heroes, people winning battles with their feelings, etc...)
3) Stupidity (dim hero, obnoxiously optimistic girl, etc...)

What ever happened to a plot and script? Anime today is so bad. I miss classics like Akira, Ghost in the Shell, Patlabor, Perfect Blue, Tenchi Muyo, Wicked City... Good thing we have Space Brothers and Sword Art Online this year. And I can't wait for Jormungand season 2!

Shiki was good, but it wasn't amazing. It started off slow, but picked up around ep 7 or 8. What turned me off was the main character and his (homoerotic?) relationship with his friend. I liked the ending. It didn't make the vampires look good, it just made the humans look as bad as the vampires. Worse, even, as the vampires pointed out they kill for food. The humans just killed.

Seeing the episode can't be the reason anyone would pay those prices. They're either collecting, supporting the makers or getting something else with the disks.

Reverse importation is a big concern in Japan in the anime industry. Part of the reason why they charge high license fees.

And the reason pricing is like that in Japan is because they try to sell to otaku at outrageous prices. Because they sometimes do buy it. Who else is gonna pay $50-100 per disc? Not your average person, that's for sure. They are specifically and purposefully targeting low volume, high price.

I don't know, I thought Moribito was a fantastic anime It seemed to be popular in the US.

Kamisama Dolls wasn't bad, not as good as the manga but not bad in it's own right.

I'm surprised yuri lover aren't defending Sasameki Koto which I personally thought was funny and sweet.

Oh well.

That really bad. It would almost be cheaper to import a region 1 boxed set from the US if you had a region free player. Is it legal in Japan to import region 1 discs or do they have that loophole closed?

I stopped paying for anime when I realized I was paying $500 to watch a series that a US distributor would blow out in box-sets for $75 6 months later.

most of these shows failed because THEY DESERVED TO. By half-assing the plot, or the fanservice, or the artwork. Or all 3.

Anime disc sales are just like stats in an RPG- you have to have at least one outstanding redeeming feature otherwise you're just mediocre bargain-bin crap.

I mean seriously- look at Softenni. 130 MILLION people in Japan, and you sold fewer discs than my local Best Buy will sell of any Disney movie in its DVD/BD release weekend.
