I stopped believing that any public institution will defend my right as a citizen and human being a long time ago.

The police in my city (which shall remain nameless, since I don’t feel like talking down where I live) publicly announced that they won’t investigate break-and-enters so there is no point for the public to call about it.

They are known for using heavy and, in several instances, fatal force on unarmed people who are irate and frustrated in public. And they are very effective at giving out traffic fines.

My personal experience with the police was in a traffic accident where I swerved into the ditch during winter. The police’s first priority when getting there was to tow my car away and write me a ticket for speeding, despite not having any sign or evidence that I ever sped, and only asked if I was injured as an afterthought, when I began to call for a taxi.

And yes, this particular city is one of the most expensive in North America…
