Actually a maid cafe with bars on the windows and such could be made into something rather spectacular if done correctly.
Do Strike Witches style and have it peppered with prop army fixtures and make it look like a bunker and have the girls all walk around with guns in holsters and such and their outfits all look a little wartorn, and they're a bit more nonchalant about the whole 'war outside' type deal.
Anyway, with enough creativity anything can be utilized in any setting...
...but these girls, while brave, are kind of... I won't even hide it they shouldn't be doing this. You're flaunting a concept that involves beauty when you obvious don't really try. Outfits do not make one beautiful, they enhance what's already there, even if what's already there is a spare tire.
And I didn't even consider the black maid concept in US history until the comment in the article. That made me actually laugh that they thought of it before I did.

This seems like it would be more appropriate in Ann Arbor. It definitely takes balls to open a place like this in the middle of Detroit.
Although midtown is a nice area, it's surrounded by the ghetto. I used to work at College for Creative Studies, and was generally scared to go more than two blocks away from the place at any time without a car.

They are not the only Maid cafe in America.If you go to some Anime Conventions in America I know some groups host a Maid Cafes for fun some are very successful at it.There is even a Maid Cafe in Culver City, California if you don't believe me look it up.
I guess the Japanese had to bring up an old issue of history.I have to agree with the person point about these ladies that they seem more geeky talking about Anime and Manga I bet if you get to know them better i would guess someone would have a good experiance going to this Maid Cafe.

The other maids were ok when I went to the cafe a few times, but Kurohime was really rude and Coca seemed irritable. Ami is the best looking but shes also the nicest. I think thats the most important. But some of the new maids like that blonde chick are fuckable too but since Ami is underaged shes still number one. But thats not saying shit for this cafe.

1. Sounds like the cafe is in a good area that you have to go through a bad area to get to.
2. The maids aren't crack-the-mirror ugly, but some of them are a bit on the chunky side & won't be winning any beauty contests.
3. Now this part seems racist -- the maids are black. The difference of course is that black women in general are no longer pigeonholed into being maids or nothing at all as was once the case in the U.S. However, seeing black girls dressed up like maids & acting servile apparently stirs up history class lessons among people who've never experienced the real thing.
