Well, the heart wants what it wants, and that seems to be a major theme of the anime. It's age old- why does Archie date Veronica when Betty's much nicer to him? Even though there is objectively a better choice, he's not attractive in the same ways, and doesn't seem to need her. The narcissist is using Casca's good heart against her. I think what the ending really sells is the refutation of this; even the most pathetic, helpless people can still be capable of incredible cruelty. I guess she's not a perfect tragic figure, given how much suffering is shared by the entire cast, but I find her hesitation to be pretty believable.

I have yet to see Sawatari Makoto on any of these lists, slowly dieing over the course of 3ep. She then gets her only wish granted while she was too far gone to understand it and then vanishes right after. That is what tragic is all about not Izumi... They only consider it tragic because she was hot.

Sakura from Tsubasa Chronicles did not make top 20 tragic?

A clone, memories wiped and rewiped every time she gets an idea of who her true love is, watches her best friend turn into a monster, and find out he is a clone too? Her life force ripped from her body and spread out across the Clamp multiverse in the form of feathers that everyone covets and she has to fight for each one?

As for the Anime vs Manga debate, there was 52 episodes, 5 OVAs, and a movie. Plus all the tie-ins with xxxHolic and the other Clamp animes.

Just another fail Sankaku list.
