The only things I'd even remotely would consider sci-fi would be NGE and Ghost in the Shell: SAC.

Then again if you take science fiction litteral I guess little humanoid pupptes jumping around on a circular table while being controlled by emotion and thought are propably more science fiction then the enhanced human.

Ergo proxy and Crest/Banner of the Stars are Science fiction,too. I don't know about anime like Titania though, those are more like the space opera genre xD.
It is really hard to get a good science fiction anime because most of these that use fictionary science belong to the real robot/super robot genre or something like space opera... Especially Ergo Proxy is a good example for a simple science fiction anime, same goes partly for Eve no Jikan(too much focus on robots/androids though).

The list itself didn't surprise me though, because it's made by the same idiots that weren't able to tell shit apart from fantasy... I feel for those guys that can only vote for the few anime they know, they are pitiful in their very existence T_T (even more than any suicidals and hikkikomori...).

Seriously!? Ghost in the Shell should have been in the top five. So if it doesn't involve Oppai, boys spouting blood at the mere thought of something ecchi, or an incomplete pointless story it doesn't count. My god anime is getting weak sauce.

It was a show about navel-gazing, not science. Having sci-fi elements doesn't mean you're a science fiction anime, no matter how cathartic or serene you are.

Actually, it's espers vs magicians. The "science" parts are just to conveniently make it sound like there's more to it (ie, science vs religion). It might as well be Red vs Blue.

The second half of the series? Once they were through with the Planetes arc and the Last Exile arc, the only thing that made it sci-fi at all was the fact that it was set in space.

Technically, DtB and Fate aren't even sci-fi, and it's being kind to include FMA and Eureka as well unless you consider giant robots fighting to be sciencey enough anymore.
