Why are people so dumb? The setting makes sense if you actually read the novel.

Aliens attacked in the late 60s which means all of the social changes since then are completely different. Japan didn't become the technology heaven it is today. It stayed more traditional in it's culture.

America is probably similar.

Humanity has been fighting a losing war for 30 years. The first to fight were all the men of course, but this late in the game all that are left to fight are women and children. All the men have already been drafted. Also, the world population is down to 1 billion or so and mainland Asia is more or less done as a human habitat. It is completely taken over by BETA. Japan is important because they are between the BETA and that side of the world.

As for the pilot suits, I think they explained it in the novel but I don't remember. Besides, this was originally an eroge. As far as that goes, skintight suits are about the worst of it for the most part.

If I got something wrong I hope someone with more knowledge corrects me.

Its not a book - its video, so don't mix it together.
Book will have only 1 picture - the rest is just story + your imagination
Video is complete - you get FULL information in visual, audio and storyline at one go.
I snaped because even if the story can be good, they throw funservice from beggining.
If they showed us a good plot, make us feel for characters, then bodysuits here and then will be a good eye candy. But if you been feed this all the time - you start to get angry. Couse they think that you a dumb-jerking-monkey who need only boobs to be pleased.

LOL Piloting suit needed for defence of body and ergonomical function with vehicle - but we see suit that don't defend at all inner organs and have unpractical heavy modules on legs and arms - they will get in the way when piloting and slow down reaction time.

Just an issue of their unit belonging to an All Girls School.

And as I mentioned elsewhere, the overall vibe is similar to Gunparade March. Except that their school was co-ed, hence they had guys in their unit.

Most likely glasses girl's BF was going to an All Boys School, and that would mean nothing but guys in his unit. Well, least till they got eaten by the Bugs anyway.

Not sure if they even have co-ed schools in this particular timeline, what considering that the Shogunate is still in place as well.
