The question that comes to my mind after that ranking is :
Do people voted for the song itself or the opening video ?
If you listen without video, the whole thing change.
there are few songs that make me WANT to listen to them someone from working! was one and another was the first ed for gosick why they aren't ranked farther up the list I'll probably never understand
They should put Code Geass in.
Flow's Colours is a good song and the video is perfect.
I have a hard time believing in Idolmaster's victory were this the case. Strip the visuals from it and you really don't get anything impressive.
And yet, Kimi no Shiranai Monogatari was an ending theme and had sketchy, scribble visuals, so... maybe not all voters voted with the same criteria.
Bogus list unless it includes:
1. Cruel Angel Thesis - Evangelion
2. Forces - Berserk
3. Heart of Sword - Rurouni Kenshin
4. Let Me Be With You - Chobits
5. When the Higurashi Cry - Higurashi no Naku ni
6. Invoke (phase shift) - Gundam Seed Destiny
7. Kiri and Paranoid Android - Ergo Proxy
8. Lillium - Elfen Leid
I find this list's lack of Yoko Kanno disturbing.
Do you mean kazaza2's list or the one in the article?
It's good that two of her works are included, but frankly I think Lion is one of her weaker OPs. Aquarion on the other hand is legendary, but the lack of Tank!/Real Folk Blues, Rain/Gravity, Kiseki no Umi, Yakusoku wa Iranai, Platinum and Voices is seriously disturbing. And that's only as far as OPs/EDs go...
The lack of Yuki Kajiura is equally incomprehensible.
To be fair, a real list of the best anime songs would just be a Yoko Kanno list. Sometimes we need to be fair to the other musicians.
@12:28 No, not easily. It's one of the rare occasions in the last 30 or so years someone managed to equal her genius, for _one_ song. That is hardly easily.
Of course that doesn't change the fact that Ai Oboeteimasuka marks THE most epic and impactful use of a song in anime, and should therefore be number one in this list.
BTW, did you link the wrong video?
yoko kanno, yuuki kajiura, maaya sakamoto, megumi hayashibara. Q;E.D
Damn, wrong link in clipboard:

Do You Remember Love should definitely be #1 of all time. But "Inner Universe" and "Rise" from GITS should be there, and several others.
No, she's good but others are good too
Ai Oboetei Imasu ka by Kato Kazuhiko is easily the equal of anything Yoko has done:

HELL YES the number one anime song hands down no questions is Do you Remember Love from the Macross DYRL movie.
In fact that movie IS anime. Music, animation, transforming robots and love triangles, big hair, and galactic scale war.
Any list of the greatest anime songs that doesn't include Green Bird is down syndrome level.
Good calls. The Higurashi OP and EDs are incredible, and the original Kenshin OST is legendary - even the BGM by Noriyuki Asakura.
How about any of the eurobeat songs from INITIALLLLL D!!?
Also missing uninstall from bokurano which was amazing.
The op's and ed's of sokyuu no fafner were also goddamn amazing.
Ok list, needs more:
1) Ranma ½ - "Omoide ga Ippai"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SqgdguzG4Fk
2) Nichijou - "Hyadain no Kakakata"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eCswvr8eRNk
3) Usagi Drop - "High High High"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SXCwbKFCqd4
Needs to Slam Dunk
Clannad ED as well
Bokusatsu Tenshi Dokuro Chan's OP is undeniably the best
WTF this list is bullshit! How can they not have any of the amazing songs from Eureka7!!
Shangri-La - Fafner
Haha the first thing I did was check to see if the Elfen lied Lilium was here, when I discovered it wasn't this list became instantly invalid.
And... where the fuck is the darker than black OP (original).
Why only 20 why not 100 most memorable anime op/ed's. and chosen by real fans not the same dumb asses who keep making this shit list's.
I could agree with you but the lack of Tank!, The Real Folk Blues and Kouga Ninpo Chou makes it hard.
I'd replace Seikan Hikou with Aimo myself from the same series, although placement wise that would be a tad too low.
And both versions, both normal and the battle versions would be more than worthy replacements.
That's just like, your opinion, man.
-the Dude
I vote you for President!
where is libera me from hell?
row row fight the power!!!
talk about going back years ago. Get with the times dude.
What I just said. Type B otakus are not the only one to ever please... ^^
Zips instead of Invoke, and add on Reckless Fire - S. Cry. Ed. then I can agree with you
Opinions, opinions. It's only a bogus list if you disagree with it.
I myself have tons of Anime songs that I like not featured on the list, but I respect the opinions of those who made it and don't cry their tastes foul for not adhering to mine.
"My Boyfriend is a pilot." from Macross fame.
i was hopeing for don't say lazy to be on the list or at list listen from k-on
A list of "Greatest Anime Songs" is going to be highly subjective, and vary greatly from one person or group to the next. Obviously, not everyone has the same taste in music, and not everyone has seen the same anime to have heard their music. A more fitting title for this list would be "Popular Music From Popular Anime of the Last Few Years," though that isn't exactly a very catchy title. :P
Getting worked up that a subjective poll among a limited group of participants doesn't match your own opinion is silly. Just think of the list as a way to find some new music you may have otherwise overlooked.
OMG, Lillium!! How is that not on the list?! Good call
How do people still like Heart of Sword? And Let Me Be With You? Seriously? You might as well vote for DoCo songs from Ranma 1/2.
And what's wrong with DoCo songs? They're awesome!!
Those of you who are listing Evangelion, FMA, GTO etc. songs as great anime songs is just the same as listing Beatles or Rolling Stones as great rock songs...
Yeah, they might be great but it's already too OLD...
The hallmark of truly great music is being able to transcend time and altered taste, and still have an impact.
Whether it be: "Paint it Black" by the Rolling Stones or the "Ninth Symphony" by Beethoven or even "Lilium" by Yukio Kondo.
It's why "The Light Before We Land" by the Delgado's was just perfect for Gunslinger girl.
Or "Paranoid Android" by Radiohead for Ergo Proxy.
...And how does that make them not worthy of being included? Do songs go bad after a few years? "Oh classical music is so dreadfully old, it's shit. Modern hip hop is far superior." That's what you sound like.
Nothing from Yoko Kanno?
The whole score from Wolfs Rain is nothing short of a masterpiece. Shame.
You might want to double check the credits for the Macross F stuff.
there are 3 songs from Yoko in the list.
The 2 macross frontier songs and Sousei no Aquarion.
So 2 songs in the top 10 ;)
Actually there is one from Yoko Kanno. See Aquarion
I stand corrected.
Yoko actually needs here own poll "Greatest Yoko Kanno scores and songs and then everyone else. ;)
She's a true Japanese musical treasure!
She should be on any "best video game music" list too
