To many parts and it'll be more likely to break, and whoever your enemy is they'll be likely to exploit it.
It doesn't need to be HUGE, that's not really tactical, it just needs to be able to traverse streets pretty well and/or bulldoze anything thing in its way, cars, maybe buildings. I think it would best fill the role of "support vehicle" or "assualt vehicle".
You wouldn't need a AI except for maybe target acquiring stuff, like AC for example, and if that didn't work a few mounted cameras like in gundam.

Second, in an age where everyone is using unmanned air drones, how well do you think a Mobile Suit will fare against it? Also, MS's legs are easy targets for tanks,something people who played Zeonic Front will know too well about that.
A real Gundam would be epic, but I think that Zakus should be first, and then after enough experience with building MS's comes about, and greater advances in technology come about,then go for the Gundam.
