You can’t imagine how much this means for Japanese game developers. Until now, they’ve been hugely limited in terms of what they can do within a low to mid-budget project because they’ve always had to build their engines from scratch. The inability to use universal pre-built game engines is one of the key factors for why Japanese games in general have become so stale as of late. If game engines such as Unreal become more popular with Japanese devs, we might be looking at a whole another picture …
