Comment on Wii U Graphics “Worse Than PS3 After All” by Anonymous:

I think you missed the point completely.

You said the Wii U can output gameplay in 1080p, but that’s not the forced native resolution, it just has the ABILITY to do so. It’s the same in the PS3′s case, it also has the ABILITY to output gameplay in 1080p, but most developers code their games to run at a max of 720p for one of two reasons:

1. When developing multiconsole HD games (360/ps3), you want to use the lowest common denominator. No point in developing it in 1080p if it will only run well on the ps3 but not the 360.

2. The jump from 720p to 1080p in a game requires a noticeable increase in processing power. So even though the PS3 and Wii U have the ABILITY to output in 1080p, graphic intensive games will likely suffer a blow in performance if they’re rendered in 1080p rather than 720p.

So unless the Wii U outpowers the ps3 significantly, I would expect developers to continue doing what they have been doing and develop graphic intensive games in 720p for smoother performance.
