Well,the problem lies within the possibility that you can buy those knifes easily everywhere and can hide them inside your pockets/clothes/etc. and stab people. The same goes for axes and hammers that can murder people if used correctly.

You can’t protect your folks out there even if you ban tools from being sold because they can still beat people to death, and if they flip and their victims are relatively weak, you can’t prevent those crimes.

Well,it’s still better to be in Japan with much less violent felonies than anywhere else where people are crazy (other safe countries are Swiss and Canada) like Germany (it’s mainly those Turkish/Russian/ South-east-Europeans that do most of the violent felonies here[except child rape]).

It’s mainly because :
1. our mentality sucks
2. we are too capitalistic
3. we left our morals and dignity behind after the war( decay through the liberalism in the politics)
4.we have uncontrolled immigration
5. our laws are way too slack

It would be way better to exterminate everyone who dares to destroy the peaceful society than extorting money from the society through having tons of examinations, trials, and having to pay for their inhabitation in prison.

The only way to stop this is to give people proper education about morality and dignity and to exchange our law system for one that knows only 2 kinds of fixed penalties :
death penalty (for those mentally ill canibalists,rapers,abusers and mass murderers) and labor camps for everyone else who dares to violate the law as he pleases.

That’s the only way how our societies nowadays can be freed from those who plague them due to the disability of our law-system to effectively counter it without putting an even greater financial(costs of the trials) and mental(through the exposure in the media) burden onto our societies in the end!
