That is were you are mistaken, GSC figures are an investment, one that can net you a 50-300% profit if done properly.

Can we agree that it's the same at buying AKB48 CDs in large quantities: they're both fucking stupid, though at different intensities. If you're rich, feel free, but to call this a wise investment as a run of the mill middle class man/woman, more than likely with a family or loved one whose quality of day to day life could be improved greatly with any amount of money?

It's not so much that the Wii U isn't powerful. It can output gameplay in 1080p, which is 2.25x the PS3 and Xbox 360 which is 99% 720p. It's that Nintendo sets such a low bar for graphics. Just look at Pikmin 3, for example. It looks okay, but it certainly doesn't look as good as it should, considering what the Wii U is capable of.
In general, I like Nintendo's software, but for the past two generations, they've really failed on the hardware.
