K-On really didn't have much going for it anyways. The characters were adorable, and the music from the anime was good, but that's about it. It's rather obvious that the actual story would end bad.

technically, beck is purely focused on music, and k-on is focused on comedy like how the girls just have fun with whatever and do random stuff with their everyday lives (with a bit of music on the side). so they aren't really much alike.
It just so happens that both anime/manga have music and bands involved with them.

K-on had a potential to be a good anime. if they kept their moeness less and put more music in the show. atleast they should had episodes where they discuss different genres or encounter people who plays it like asuza's friend the jazz player (I think her name was junko)
